Job summary

360°kids is seeking a Senior Financial Analyst to lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting for a nonprofit. You will work with program managers to improve financial understanding, ensure timely, accurate reporting, and support internal controls and audits.

The role requires CPA consideration, 3+ years of nonprofit experience, and strong skills in Sage Intacct, Excel, and day-to-day financial operations.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in accounting/finance with strong accounting knowledge.
  • CPA designation or working towards it is a plus.
  • Minimum of three years of related experience, preferably in a not-for-profit.
  • Vulnerable sector check is required.
  • Sage Intacct expertise is a MUST.
  • Proficient with Outlook, Excel and Word.

Responsibilities

  • Lead month-end close, journal entries, accruals and balance sheet analysis.
  • Manage accounts receivable, deposits and other finance ops.
  • Lead budgeting and forecasting, variance analysis and action planning.
  • Coordinate with Program Managers to improve financial understanding.

  • Supervise Accounts Payable staff to ensure timely, accurate work.

Job description

The Senior Financial Analyst will provide senior-level financial analysis, reporting and operational support to the Director of Finance & Administration and organizational leadership. The position will take a lead role in budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, funder compliance, audit preparation and the continuous improvement of financial processes and internal controls. The Senior Financial Analyst will work closely with Program Managers to improve financial understanding, support effective resource allocation and ensure financial information is accurate, timely and useful for decision making.

Key Responsibilities :
  • Lead and coordinate month-end activities, including journal entries, accruals, bank reconciliation, and Balance Sheet/ Statement of Operation account analysis.
  • Complete miscellaneous finance operations such bank deposits, accounts receivable and journal entries.
  • Participate in the annual budget process and lead periodic forecasting processes, including the preparation of templates, consolidation of departmental submissions and analysis of organizational financial requirements. Conduct detailed variance analysis and work with Program Managers to identify the causes of significant variances and develop appropriate corrective actions. Review the financial terms and reporting requirements of funding agreements and ensure that revenues and expenditures are recorded and reported in accordance with funder requirements.
  • Identify financial and operational risks and bring significant matters to the attention of the Director of Finance & Administration
  • Liaison with third part organizations, to guarantee efficiency of operations for both Finance department and 3600kids staff.
  • Perform year-end close activities, including adjusting journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, and account analysis.
  • Assist in the preparation of the year-end audit files and schedules, working papers, and work with auditors to complete the annual audit.
  • Support the development, implementation and monitoring of internal controls to protect organizational assets and improve the accuracy and reliability of financial information.
  • Review accounting processes and recommend improvements to strengthen controls, reduce manual activities and improve the efficiency of Finance operations.
  • Prepare supporting documentation for funder audits and financial monitoring. Work with funders during these activities to best support the interests of 360kids.
  • Maintain and update the lease continuity schedule in the spreadsheet based on programs’ rent logs.
  • Prepare the rent tax receipts for the youths at the end of calendar year
  • Complete the bi-annual HST return .
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly reports for program managers and funders, including relevant analysis and appropriate recommendations.
  • Prepare specific and detailed financial analysis and reports as required or appropriate to various stakeholders, including Managers, Funders, Directors, CEO, COO, to support decision making and planning.
  • Assist with the implementation of recommendations arising from external audits, funder reviews and internal control assessments.
  • Supervise and support the activities of the Accounts Payable Administrator, ensuring the timeliness and accuracy of work competed.
Education/Experience/Licenses/Certification Required:
  • Post-Secondary education Accounting or Finance and advanced accounting and finance knowledge.
  • CPA designation or working towards obtaining one is an asset.
  • Minimum three years related experience preferably in a not for profit environment.
  • Current vulnerable sector screening (criminal background check).
  • Working knowledge of Sage Intacct is a MUST.
  • Experienced and skilled in the use of all corporate productivity tools including Outlook, Excel, Word.
  • Proficient with organization specific systems, including Ceridian Dayforce, Sage Intacct, RBC Express, AHT payments.
  • Must be resourceful and possess excellent problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently using an above average level of initiative.
  • Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple and changing demands.
  • Strong oral and written communication with all levels of staff, the public and clients while maintaining objectivity.
  • Must be able to handle confidential information in an ethical and professional manger.
