Job summary

A non-profit organization in Ottawa is seeking a Senior Manager, Finance to oversee all aspects of accounting, reporting, and budget functions. This role requires a CPA designation or equivalent and at least 7 years of finance management experience. The candidate will supervise direct reports, develop financial policies, and collaborate with the leadership team on projects. Opportunities for remote and onsite work are available. Applicants must have strong interpersonal and communication skills and be able to explain complex finances clearly.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Review external auditor findings and implement recommendations
  • Develop external partnerships with funders and sister organizations
  • Support CFO as needed

STATUS: Existing Vacancy

SUMMARY

Reporting to the CFO, the Senior Manager, Finance has oversight responsibility for all aspects of the accounting, audit, budget, and reporting functions across both SGH and SGHF.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Supervise direct reports which includes monitoring work assignment, time off, coaching and completing annual performance reviews
  • Develop job descriptions for Team
  • Develop, recommend, monitor, review and revise financial policies, procedures and internal controls and ensures compliance and proactively identify areas for improvement
  • Calendarize the deliverables for the finance department and team
  • Ensure the team is supported with adequate tools: i.e. IT hardware/ software and desks chairs, office space
  • Review and approve reports for external and internal parties as well as the Finance Committees and Boards of Directors. Make recommendations for improvement in process and identify funding opportunities/ cost savings.
  • Signatory to month end & related reconciliations
  • Review the annual capital and operation budgets for Board approval. Make recommendations for improvements in process and identify funding/ saving opportunities
  • Collaborate with senior leadership team on projects and initiatives
  • Review external auditor findings and implement recommendations
  • Develop network with external parties: i.e. external funders, sister organizations
  • Support CFO as needed
QUALIFICATIONS
  • An accounting designation of CPA, or experience equivalent, preferred
  • Knowledge of CRA Fundraising Guidelines.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in finance/accounting management and a minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience.
  • Experience working in a Not-for-Profit is an asset.
  • Superior interpersonal skills and the ability to build consensus. Ability to develop collaborative relationships.
  • Embrace and lead change decisively in a complex environment.
  • Superior communication skills, both written and oral, and be able to explain complex finances in simple language.
  • Advanced knowledge of SAP Business One, Raiser’s Edge, ADP or similar software.
  • Possess advanced Excel skills and proficiency in using other Microsoft Office
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines on a regular basis and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Professional and discreet, with a strong sense of integrity. They must have the ability to maintain privacy and confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Excellent problem solving, analytical and critical thinking skills and a knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must by at least 18 years of age
  • Able to read text and communicate orally in English. Ability to communicate in other languages is considered an asset.
WORKING CONDITIONS

The regular working schedule is 8 hours from Monday to Friday, during normal business hours that are typically between 8am and 5pm. There is an expectation of flexibility in scheduling work around program needs that may occur from time to time during evenings and weekends. This role provides opportunity to work remotely and onsite as required. As a non-unionized employee in the organization, there is an expectation that the employee will manage their time accordingly and utilize flexible working hours where needed to make up for the times where exceptional hours may apply.
