Director of Finance - Hospitality
Cottage Dream Vacations (CDV) is a dynamic hospitality company dedicated to building and managing five-star cottage resorts across Canada. We are seeking a results-oriented Director of Finance to oversee financial operations for a portfolio of hospitality properties from our head office in Whitby, Ontario. This senior leadership role is responsible for ensuring strong financial governance, operational alignment, and consistent reporting in accordance with ASPE (Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises). Key Responsibilities:
Financial Leadership & Strategy
- Lead financial planning and analysis across all hospitality locations, including annual budgets and rolling forecasts.
- Serve as a financial advisor to the executive team and General Managers, offering strategic insight to support decision-making.
- Ensure financial initiatives align with business goals and drive operational efficiency and profitability.
Financial Reporting & Oversight
- Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with ASPE.
- Provide detailed variance analysis, financial commentary, and consolidated reporting for ownership and leadership.
- Ensure timely and accurate reporting of property-level and corporate financial performance.
Controls & Compliance
- Maintain strong internal controls and accounting procedures to safeguard company assets.
- Ensure full compliance with Canadian accounting standards (ASPE), tax regulations, and corporate policies.
- Support external accountants and auditors with year-end financials, tax filings, and audit preparation.
Operational Support & Business Analysis
- Analyze key hospitality metrics (occupancy, RevPAR, ADR, margins) to identify trends and areas for improvement.
- Evaluate capital expenditures, ROI on renovations or upgrades, and business case modeling for new initiatives.
- Collaborate with operations teams to identify cost-saving opportunities and improve financial performance.
Team Leadership & Collaboration
- Lead and mentor a team of finance professionals across corporate and property locations.
- Promote alignment and consistency in financial practices, reporting tools, and communication.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and financial literacy across departments.
System Optimization & Process Improvement
- Optimize accounting processes and leverage financial software for efficiency and accuracy.
- Standardize tools and templates across locations for budgeting, reporting, and tracking key metrics.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business
- CPA designation required (CA, CGA, or CMA)
- Minimum 8 years of senior financial leadership experience, preferably in hospitality or multi-site operations
- Strong technical knowledge of ASPE and Canadian tax compliance
- High proficiency with accounting software (e.g., Sage, QuickBooks Enterprise) and Excel
- Strong communication, analytical, and leadership skills
Preferred Assets:
- Experience in hotel or resort accounting and operations
- Familiarity with hospitality systems (PMS, POS) and KPIs (e.g., GOP, RevPAR)
- Willingness to travel to property locations as needed (approx. 10–20%)
- Must have strong MS Excel and PowerPoint skills
- Must have excellent interpersonal, leadership, and presentation skills
