Job summary
The Toronto Port Authority is seeking a Marine Engineer to oversee the operation and maintenance of the ferries David Hornell and Marylin Bell at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport. Responsibilities include scheduling preventive maintenance, supervising contractors, and coordinating with captains and the Integrated Technical Services team to ensure safety, reliability, and compliance.
This union position requires 3rd Class Engineer certification, relevant MED certificates, and strong English
Qualifications
- Licensed as a 3rd Class Marine Engineer with Transport Canada.
- Minimum 2 years as 3rd Class engineer on ferries, tugs, or similar vessels.
- Current Marine Advanced First Aid and Marine Medical Certificate required.
- Good command of English, reading/writing/speaking clearly.
Responsibilities
- Lead operation and maintenance of the ferries David Hornell and Marylin Bell.
- Inspect and maintain mechanical and electrical systems on board.
- Maintain engine room cleanliness and organization.
- Complete daily startup routines and SMS checklists.
- Record and track vessel deficiencies using the digital management system.
- Plan and schedule regular shipboard maintenance and drydockings.
- Supervise contractors and staff during maintenance tasks.
- Participate in vessel emergency drills and safety procedures.
- Coordinate with captains and Integrated Technical Services on maintenance.
