Job summary

Bay Ferries Limited is seeking a 2nd Class Marine Engineer to assist in the safe, efficient operation and maintenance of propulsion, auxiliary and electrical systems. You will report to the Chief Engineer and ensure compliance with Transport Canada regulations and the ISM Code.

This full-time position operates on a day-for-day rotation of 1 week on/1 week off, offering a stable schedule and opportunities for professional development within a safety-focused culture.

Qualifications

  • Transport Canada Second Class Motor Certificate of Competency required.
  • Valid Transport Canada Marine Medical Certificate required.
  • Marine Emergency Duties (MED) certification required.
  • PSM certification, or ability to obtain it.
  • WHMIS certification held or obtainable.
  • Eligible to complete company training and certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in safe operation and maintenance of propulsion, auxiliary, electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems.
  • Stand engineering watches per company procedures and Transport Canada regulations.
  • Monitor machinery performance and troubleshoot equipment issues as needed.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and repairs using the maintenance system.
  • Maintain engineering logs and operational documentation.
  • Assist with bunkering operations and environmental procedures.
  • Respond to alarms, failures, and emergencies.
  • Ensure compliance with TC regulations, ISM Code, and environmental standards.
  • Participate in safety drills, meetings and training.
  • Provide guidance to junior engineering personnel as required.
  • Collaborate with onboard departments to support safe vessel operations.

2nd Class Marine Engineer

Position Summary

Reporting to the Chief Engineer, the Marine 2nd Engineer isresponsible for assisting in the safe, efficient, and reliable operation andmaintenance of the vessel's propulsion machinery, auxiliary equipment,electrical systems. The successful candidate will contribute to maintainingoperational readiness while ensuring compliance with Transport Canadaregulations, Company policies, and the International Safety Management (ISM)Code.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assistin the safe operation, monitoring, and maintenance of the vessel'spropulsion, auxiliary, electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems.
  • Standengineering watches in accordance with Company procedures and TransportCanada regulations.
  • Monitormachinery performance and troubleshoot equipment issues as required.
  • Completepreventative maintenance and repairs using the Company's plannedmaintenance system.
  • Maintainaccurate engineering logs, maintenance records, and operationaldocumentation.
  • Assistwith bunkering operations and environmental protection procedures.
  • Respondto machinery alarms, equipment failures, and emergency situations.
  • Ensurecompliance with Company policies, Transport Canada regulations, ISM Coderequirements, and environmental standards.
  • Promotea strong safety culture by participating in emergency drills, safetymeetings, and ongoing training.
  • Provideguidance and support to junior engineering personnel as required.
  • Workcollaboratively with all onboard departments to support safe and efficientvessel operations.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to maintaining a just-cause safety culture
