Senior Farm Underwriter — Hybrid/Remote

Job summary

The Wawanesa Mutual Insurance Company is seeking an Underwriter, Commercial Lines, Farm to analyze and approve moderately complex farm business in collaboration with our sales force, applying guidelines to assess risk and determine renewal eligibility for value to policyholders.

This role offers a hybrid work model across Ontario with opportunities to develop underwriting expertise within a supportive team, plus bonus plans and comprehensive benefits. Travel to broker sites may be required.

Qualifications

• Commercial Farm underwriting experience, including risk assessment, pricing, and broker relationship management.
• 1–3 years experience may be Intermediate level; more experience may be Senior level.
• Post-secondary education or related business experience.
• Completed or actively pursuing a Property and Casualty Industry Designation.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
• Excellent attention to detail with the ability to review information carefully.
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to provide justification.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to present information clearly.
• Strong decision making skills with the ability to provide justification.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize daily work.

Responsibilities

• Perform risk analysis using technology and external data sources for quoting, negotiating and authorizing acceptance of risk.
• Arrange reinsurance or subscribing companies where appropriate.
• Work with brokers to build strong relationships and provide Farm solutions.
• Determine eligibility for policy renewals based on guidelines and retention goals.
• Maintain accurate records and policy data.
• Communicate decisions promptly and professionally.
• Assist with interpretation of rating procedures, wordings, underwriting policies and regulations.
• Handle work assignments, including calls, efficiently.
• Travel locally to work in the field with brokers.
