Job description

A Canadian custom millwork and manufacturing firm specializing in commercial architectural projects is seeking a Senior Millwork Estimator to join its team and has enlisted Harbinger Network's assistance. With more than 25 years of experience in the Greater Toronto Area and an extensive portfolio of international projects, the company is recognized for delivering high-quality architectural millwork, casework, surface cladding, and themed environments for restaurants, hotels, casinos, entertainment venues, condominiums, malls, and other public spaces.

The Senior Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates by analyzing architectural drawings, specifications, and client requirements. This role is essential to ensuring project profitability and successful execution from concept through completion.

This is a fully on-site position.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates for millwork and construction projects.
  • Analyze project drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine scope and material requirements.
  • Calculate material, labour, and production costs for woodworking and cabinetry projects.
  • Complete material takeoffs and labour estimates according to specifications.
  • Utilize estimating software, including Innergy, to support estimating processes.
  • Obtain and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations to ensure competitive pricing.
  • Develop detailed client proposals and ensure estimates align with project requirements and company objectives.
  • Review design options and recommend cost‑effective solutions while maintaining quality standards.
  • Estimate general conditions, labour requirements, equipment costs, contingencies, and escalation factors.
  • Coordinate with project managers, designers, and production teams to assess feasibility and scope.
  • Attend site visits as required to gather project‑specific information.
  • Maintain clear communication with clients, vendors, suppliers, and internal teams.
  • Lead project handover meetings and assist with project setup following award.
  • Support value engineering initiatives by identifying cost‑saving alternatives.
  • Interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications accurately.
  • Maintain current knowledge of industry pricing, fabrication methods, materials, and trends.
  • Compare estimated versus actual project costs to identify variances and improve future estimates.
  • Contribute to the ongoing improvement of estimating tools and processes.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, subcontractors, and clients.
Minimum Qualifications
Technical Knowledge and Experience
  • Minimum 5–10 years of estimating experience within architectural millwork, cabinetry, or related construction trades.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Extensive knowledge of millwork materials, fabrication methods, and joinery techniques.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word.
  • Experience using estimating software such as Innergy.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, time management, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and stakeholders.
  • Hands‑on woodworking or cabinetmaking experience is considered a strong asset.
  • Experience preparing both conceptual and detailed estimates for design‑build or high‑end architectural projects.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment with changing priorities.
  • Knowledge of materials commonly used in the industry, including wood, metal, acrylic, and glass.
  • Ability to interpret structural and architectural drawings accurately.
  • Understanding of construction methods, structures, and processes.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience using Bluebeam and Innergy software.
  • Familiarity with Ontario Building Code requirements and local regulations.
  • Knowledge of AWMAC standards.

Location Requirements
