Job description

Education: P.Eng. designation required, in good standing APEGA or equivalent.

Our Asset Management Business Unit is growing. Our Asset Management Business Unit manages the engineering, production operations, liability closures, accounting, land HS&E and regulatory oversight of junior to mid-sized E&P companies ranging from 100 to 8,000 BOE per day.

We are seeking Senior Engineer, Production Operations with extensive upstream Oil and Gas experience to act in a firsthand advisor capacity for our clients. This multifaceted role involves managing operations and production processes, while supporting financial reporting. Overseeing well servicing and integrity functions, assisting with forecasting activities and providing strategic insight. This role will also be an emissions, safety, and compliance champion. The ideal candidate will possess strong self-starter skills, an analytical mindset to drive effective decision-making, and the confidence to advise on continuous improvement opportunities in processes and execution.

Key Responsibilities:

Operations:

  • Demonstrate active safety and compliance leadership within Sproule ERCE.
  • Monitor, analyse, report, and optimize daily and long-term production.
  • Support well maintenance, provide technical oversight and mentorship for well servicing.
  • Conduct area and well reviews to determine OPEX or production opportunities.
  • Support and troubleshoot production accounting anomalies, questions, or issues.
  • Set priorities and provide guidance for Operations Technician.
  • Perform monthly production and financial analysis to reconcile to budget or forecast
  • Collaborate closely with field superintendents and foreman to manage operations.
  • Support facilities modifications, maintenance, and turnarounds through MOC or DBM input.
  • Participate in ABSA processes and requirements, with focus on compliance and KPIs management.
  • Conduct annual review of SOP’s and standard.
  • Actively engage within the ERP framework.

Budgeting & Forecasting:

  • Develop and manage annual production budgets; analyze variances between actuals and budget.
  • Provide monthly production forecasts, and support operations accruals to help manage cash flow and optimization of working capital.
  • Collaborate with finance to support cash forecasts that inform strategic planning.

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Coordinate and collaborate with vendors to ensure emissions reporting is complete, accurate and on-time.
  • Function as internal advisor for TIER, carbon tax and emissions reduction strategies.
  • Steward inspection closeout and compliance monitoring, focussing on appropriate responses and deadline management.
  • Monitor regulatory changes, compliance trends and develop mitigation strategies for clients.
  • Lease operating statement review and analysis.
  • Review Joint Interest Billing for issues and anomalies. Provide insight to Head of Operations for approval.
  • Review AFEs for technical and economic viability. Provide recommendations.
  • Support effective and insightful monthly accruals.
  • Review and provide recommendations on operations invoicing.
  • Alongside senior managers, mentor operations staff, including fostering professional growth.
  • Mentor Asset Management team members on operations processes and requirements.
  • Champion best practices in production management, exception reporting, continuous improvement and artificial lift system reliability.

Required Education & Experience:

  • P.Eng. designation required, in good standing APEGA or equivalent.
  • 15+ years relevant work experience in the upstream oil and gas industry.
  • Broad experience in a variety of functional roles as well as within production assets and play types.
  • Prior leadership and management experience.

Technical Required Skills and Competencies:

  • Advanced Excel skills in data analysis and report generation.
  • Proficiency with software and accounting systems including Pandell, Qbyte, AccuMap, ValNav, OneStop, DDS, Wellman).
  • Extensive experience with Field Data Capture systems (ProdMan, PVR, etc.)
  • Significant experience with federal and provincial emissions requirements.
  • Extensive knowledge of compliance standards applicable across jurisdictions based upon client needs (AER, BCER, MER).

Non-Technical Required Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving capabilities, offering actionable insights based on data analysis.
  • Technical proficiency in artificial lift design and troubleshooting for multiple systems.
  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities, conveying complex information clearly and distinctively to stakeholders or clients.
  • Leadership qualities fostering teamwork and collaboration while driving performance excellence across production and operations departments.
  • Ability to prioritize and execute multiple projects with various timelines and deliverables.
