Job description

Senior Electrical Engineer to expand our Industrial, Water and Waste-Water team in the downtown Vancouver, British Columbia office. Reporting to the Director, Electrical, SCADA & Facilities, you will work with other electrical staff, mentor junior staff and act as project electrical lead.

What you can expect to do here:
  • Design power distribution, power generation and substations for low-voltage and medium-voltage electrical systems of industrial plants such as pump stations, water treatment plants, and other industries;
  • Perform load calculations as well as utilize modeling software to size transformers, generators, switchgear, breakers, switches, MCCs, cables, capacitor banks, UPS, harmonic filters, and other electrical equipment;
  • Develop electrical models using ETAP and EasyPower and perform analysis such as power flow, short circuit, arc flash, protection & coordination, harmonics, and static & dynamic motor start up;
  • Develop single-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, equipment layout and elevation drawings, P&IDs, grounding layouts, motor schematics and wiring diagrams, instrument loop diagrams, equipment interconnection wiring diagrams, AC/DC schematics, cable schedules, cable tray layouts, area classification drawings, fire alarm riser and layout, control panel layouts, specifications, cost estimates, lighting layouts, etc.;
  • Selection of metering and protection relays, CTs, and PTs;
  • Develop network wiring diagrams depicting nodes and communications of networks implementing protocols such as Profinet, ModBus TCP/IP, DeviceNet, or Ethernet;
  • Undertake internal technical reviews and verification checks on analysis, reports, designs and associated advice;
  • Carry out project management, contract administration and field reviews for project under construction;
  • Ensure that projects meet quality assurance requirements and the needs of WSP;
  • Assist with and prepare fee estimates, quotations and offers of service to clients, and assist with the preparation of expressions of interest and bids as required;
  • Build effective networks and working relationships with key stakeholders and especially clients, current and future;
  • Expand our service offerings in key areas. Secure electrical engineering assignments;
  • Participate in client project requirements meetings and value analysis;
  • Coordinate with other disciplines to ensure compatibility with the design intent;
  • Carry out project management, contract administration and field reviews for project under construction;
  • Maintain client service through project delivery, communication with clients, and acting on client feedback;
  • Other duties as assigned.
What you’ll bring to WSP:
  • Minimum 10 years of electrical consulting design experience in industrial sector;
  • Bachelor or Master degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution;
  • Experience in preparation of detail design drawings including single-line and three-line diagrams, equipment layouts and elevations, grounding layouts, motor schematics and wiring diagrams, equipment interconnection wiring diagrams, AC/DC schematics, instrument loop diagrams, electrical P&IDs, cable schedules, cable tray layouts, area classification drawings, grounding layouts, fire alarm riser and layout, control panel layouts, specifications, cost estimates, lighting layouts, etc;
  • Experience in sizing, developing specifications, and reviewing shop drawings of low-voltage and medium-voltage equipment including switchgear, generators, transformers, motor control centres, variable frequency drives, generators, breakers, switches, power monitoring & metering relays, CTs, PTs, capacitor banks, harmonic filters, etc.;
  • Experience in industrial project detail design cycle - analysis, design, development of drawings and specifications, cost estimation, construction support and commissioning;
  • Experience in performing power system studies using ETAP, SKM or EasyPower– power flow, short circuit, protection and coordination, arc flash, dynamic and static motor start up analysis, and harmonics analysis;
  • Sufficient knowledge of industrial plant automation to integrate motors and other equipment with the plant PLC, RTU, DCS and SCADA;
  • Knowledge of communication protocols such as Profinet, Modbus TCP/IP, DeviceNet, and Ethernet;
  • Experience in application of electrical codes and standards such as CEC, IEEE, NFPA, NEMA, NESC, ANSI, ATS, FM Global, etc;
  • Results orientated, with a reputation for, project delivery, quality, and customer service, and commercial acumen;
  • Strong ability to optimise and prioritise conflicting demands in a busy environment, to achieve deadlines;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, and English written and verbal communication skills;
  • Good analytical skills and attention to detail; and
  • Experience with Metro Vancouver engineering standards is a strong asset.
  • Experience with Metro Vancouver drafting standards is a strong asset.
  • Experience with Metro Vancouver projects and construction procedures is a strong asset.
Compensation

Salary range (in British Columbia): $124,800 - $171,600

The final salary awarded for this role may vary from the above range based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs. The salary range provided in this job posting may be subject to change for business purposes.
