Position Summary

Reporting to the Deputy Chief Financial Officer, the Senior Director, Finance and Business Innovation is a key leadership role responsible for driving strategic financial transformation and business innovation initiatives across the hospital’s finance department, in close collaboration with key Finance and non-Finance leaders and stakeholders. This position is ideal for a visionary leader who combines expertise in healthcare finance with a deep understanding of innovative technologies, financial performance data analytics, and strategic initiatives. The Senior Director will lead cross-functional teams to implement new technologies and tools, optimize financial processes, drive performance improvement, and identify new opportunities to foster a culture of innovation and customer service that is essential to advancing Finance’s goals in alignment with the strategic priorities at Canada’s number one hospital.

Duties

  • Develop and lead a Finance Business Innovation team to shape and execute a world class innovation, customer service and technology strategy for Finance
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to ensure alignment between financial innovation efforts and broader organizational goals
  • Identify, evaluate, and implement innovative technologies, process changes and business models that enhance operational efficiencies, simplify complex processes and transform customer service
  • Lead the adoption of intuitive digital solutions for Finance such as RPA, artificial intelligence, and machine learning to optimize financial and operational decision-making, in real time
  • Utilize advanced financial modeling, data analytics and data science principles that support financial and business decision making.
  • Identify new opportunities to foster a culture of innovation and customer service that is essential to advancing Finance’s goals, and provide insights and recommendations to senior leadership
  • Oversee the integration of new finance technologies and systems across all lines of business at UHN, in close collaboration with key stakeholders
  • Establish data stewardship committees and governance models to ensure appropriate oversight, risk management, and strategic organizational alignment of Finance Business Innovation
  • Serve as a key advisor to Finance executive, CFO and other senior leadership on emerging trends in healthcare finance and innovation.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including technology vendors, industry partners, healthcare and industry experts, to stay abreast of market trends and best practices.
  • Develop actionable communication, education and change management strategies for new initiatives with metrics to track and report on progress
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to the Board committees and executive teams on innovation progress, challenges, and financial impacts.
  • Ensure all innovation projects comply with healthcare regulations, financial reporting standards, internal control requirements and internal policies.
  • Manage the identification, assessment, and mitigation of risks associated with Finance and Business innovation efforts
  • Contributes to the broader Hospital mandate through participation in enterprise wide projects and committees

Minimum Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience leading high profile, complex strategic projects and teams, in a Finance and Business environment
  • Successful track record in driving innovation, digital transformation, and business model development, with the ability to execute key initiatives and achieve desired outcomes with a high degree of accuracy and defined timelines
  • A strong customer service orientation with a passion to advance the mission of the University health Network
  • A minimum of ten years of progressively senior management experience in a complex organization
  • Undergraduate degree with professional designation, Masters degree in Business, Information Technology or related field
  • Certifications in Project Management, FinTech or Data Science/AI would be an asset
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to articulate complex issues to a broad and diverse audience
  • Demonstrated ability to influence business key stakeholders
  • Strong planning and organizational skills with the ability to create integrated plans and engage multiple stakeholders
  • Proven experience establishing strong, cooperative working relationships in a complex, multi-tiered organization
  • Ability to work and thrive in a changing environment while experiencing financial constraints
  • Experience interacting with and presenting to senior management and Board Committees
  • Demonstrated experience creating and leading a dynamic and high-performing team with a focus on coaching for influence
  • Experienced learner with sound problem-solving, critical thinking, analytical, and technical skills; must have the ability to achieve operational excellence through others
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment, consistently meeting deadlines with accurate and detailed results
