Job summary

Jobtailor in Canada seeks an appointed actuary to lead the corporate actuarial function across the Group, providing strategic leadership and guiding risk assessment, capital management, technical provisions, and reinsurance.

The role ensures compliance with professional standards and regulatory requirements, overseeing analyses of provisions and financial condition while guiding catastrophe risk analyses and reinsurance strategies.

Qualifications

  • FCAS designation or a recognized equivalent.
  • 10+ years of corporate actuarial experience in property and casualty (P&C) insurance.
  • Experience managing professional teams.
  • Strong understanding of actuarial, financial, and regulatory issues affecting the insurance industry.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the appointed actuary for all entities within the Group.
  • Provide strategic leadership for the corporate actuarial function.
  • Contribute to the Group's financial strength by guiding work related to risk assessment, capital management, technical provisions, and reinsurance.
  • Ensure actuarial work complies with professional standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee analyses related to provisions, financial condition, and capital management.
  • Guide reinsurance and retrocession strategies, as well as catastrophe risk analyses.
  • Make strategic recommendations to senior management.
  • Drive the evolution of actuarial practices, tools, and models.
  • Plan and coordinate the department's activities.
  • Engage, support, and develop a team of actuarial professionals.
  • Foster a culture of excellence, collaboration, and innovation.
  • Act as a strategic partner in decisions related to the organization's financial condition and risk management
