Job summary

The City of Vancouver seeks a seasoned Manager, Design Services to lead the central graphic design function and provide creative leadership across the organization. You will oversee a multidisciplinary team delivering high-quality visual communications for programs and initiatives, ensuring accessibility and public service standards.

This senior role combines strategic direction with hands-on production, recruitment, workforce planning and staff development to continuously improve design

Qualifications

• Degree in graphic design or visual communication with 6 years experience in large, complex organizations.
• Experience leading development of graphic standards, style guides or visual systems.
• Experience balancing strategic direction with hands-on production and operational responsibilities.
• Experience providing operational leadership and staff performance management.

Responsibilities

• Leads and participates directly in development of graphic design and visual communications materials for City initiatives.
• Provides senior-level creative direction and visual storytelling for high-profile projects.
• Oversees accessibility, clarity and effectiveness of visual communications across formats and channels.
• Develops, implements and evolves graphic standards, templates and style guides for consistency and usability.
• Supports workforce planning, staff development and performance management within the design services function.
• Represents design services in cross-departmental initiatives and planning discussions.
