Position Summary
Samsung Research in Vancouver has taken a leadership role in big data. The data team in Vancouver handles massive amounts of data generated by Samsung’s cloud services and mobile devices. The team is responsible for turning this data into actionable insights that allow our customers to make data-driven decisions and create value for their business.

Why We Want You

The Research and Analytics team in Vancouver is looking for a Senior Data Engineer who is passionate about big data technology and delivering data solutions to handle TB-scale data daily and help meet the distinct needs of different customer cohorts. The member will work closely with data engineering, data science, backend and frontend, cloud engineering, UX design, and QA teams to develop data platforms and data products.

What You’ll Do

• Be responsible for system architecture design and data engineering activities including data ingestion, modeling, processing, and data governance.
• Work with the team to improve the data pipeline to process large-scale data efficiently.
• Act as a data steward to educate and promote the importance of data and a data-driven culture.
• Continuously learn and grow with new technologies, and identify and solve complex data problems.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data scientists and business stakeholders.
• Design and implement data architecture that supports analytical needs and scalability.
• Implement and maintain cloud-based data solutions for various use cases, including batch processing, near-real-time data pipelines, and AI/ML solutions.
• Document systems, workflows, and processes to maintain transparency and facilitate knowledge sharing.

This position may be a full-time employment or a contractor role.

Role And Responsibilities

• 7+ years of professional experience in Data Engineering, preferably from a product company.
• Experience in architecture design and development of large-scale data platforms and applications.
• Good experience with large-scale multi-tier cloud applications and environments.
• Deep understanding of data engineering principles, high availability systems, and API design.
• Strong SQL knowledge (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL) and experience with NoSQL databases and data warehouses.
• Extensive experience with AWS services (e.g., EC2, S3, Athena, Lambda, Redshift, EKS) or Google Cloud Platform services (e.g., BigQuery).
• Experience with open-source technologies such as Airflow, Superset, Datahub, and Great Expectations.
• Knowledge of Hadoop ecosystem components like Spark, Kafka, Hive, Presto.
• Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Python, Scala, or Java, and scripting languages like Bash.
• Experience with CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions.
• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies.
• BS or MS in Computer Science or equivalent.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.

Bonus Skills

• DevOps skills: scripting, Terraform, UNIX management, release management, monitoring.
• AWS, GCP, or Azure certifications.
• Experience with ML/AI engineering and BI engineering.
• Experience with mobile Device Management business.

Skills And Qualifications

The salary range is $97,070 to $144,540, reflecting base salary only. Actual pay depends on experience, skills, and qualifications.
