Position Summary

The Digital Health Analytics team in Vancouver is looking for a Senior Data Engineer who is passionate about big data technology and delivering data solutions to handle TB-scale data daily and help the business meet the distinct needs of different customer cohorts. The data engineers work closely with data analysts, data scientists, operations/platform teams, and business strategy teams to design, build, and deliver large-scale data applications.

This position may be a Full-Time employment or a Contractor role

Role And Responsibilities
  1. About the Role
  2. Be responsible for data engineering activities including data ingestion, data modelling, data processing, and data governance.
  3. Improve the data pipeline to process large-scale data efficiently.
  4. Be a data steward to educate and promote the importance of data and a data-driven culture.
  5. Continuously learn and grow with new technologies, and identify and solve complex data problems.
  6. Collaborate with stakeholders, product owners, and external vendors to define solutions for business and technical requirements.
  7. Lead, participate, guide, and mentor team members on data processing design and implementation best practices.
About You
  1. 7+ years of professional experience in software and big data, preferably from a product company.
  2. Experience developing large-scale data processing pipelines and implementing ETL using modern tools and best practices.
  3. Experience with large-scale multi-tier cloud applications and environments.
  4. Deep understanding of data engineering principles and hands-on experience with large-scale analytics systems.
  5. Strong knowledge of SQL (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and preferably experience with NoSQL databases.
  6. Extensive experience with AWS services such as EC2, S3, Athena, Lambda, Kinesis Firehose, Redshift.
  7. Experience with Airflow, EKS, EMR, Redshift, Kubernetes.
  8. Good knowledge of Hadoop ecosystem components like Spark, Kafka, Hive, Presto.
  9. Proficient in at least one programming or scripting language (Python, Java, Scala, Bash).
  10. Experience with CI/CD tools such as Github Actions and CircleCI.
  11. Familiar with Agile/Scrum methodologies.
  12. BSc or MSc in Computer Science or equivalent.
  13. Excellent communication and presentation skills.
Bonus Skills
  1. DevOps skills including scripting, terraform, UNIX systems, release management, and production monitoring.
  2. Experience creating visualizations and dashboards with tools like Tableau or Apache Superset.
  3. Experience in Health, IoT, or Mobile Device Management domains.
  4. Knowledge of Lakehouse architectures and table formats like Apache Iceberg, Hudi, or Delta Lake.
  5. Operational experience tuning and debugging large Spark jobs.
Skills And Qualifications

The salary range for this role is expected to be between $97,070 and $144,540, reflecting base salary only. Actual pay depends on various factors including experience, skills, and qualifications.
