Base pay range

$118,000.00/daily - $160,000.00/daily

StreetLight pioneered the use of Big Data analytics to help transportation professionals and data analysts measure, analyze and improve transportation. Applying proprietary machine-learning algorithms to location data from mobile phones, vehicle navigation devices and IoT, StreetLight sheds light on travel patterns and makes them available on-demand via the world’s first SaaS platform for mobility, StreetLight InSight. StreetLight continues to operate as an independent software organization. StreetLight Data is seeking a creative, versatile, and motivated Senior Data Engineer to be part of our growing team. This team member will lead data engineering projects to develop and maintain data pipelines for our product, as well as help productize those data products and algorithms into our scalable StreetLight InSight analytics platform. This position reports to the Director of Data Science.

Location

Remote in Canada, with a strong preference for candidates near Vancouver.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain data pipelines for processing data and empowering analytics at scale.
• Optimize pipelines, dashboards, frameworks, and systems to facilitate development of data artifacts. Transform raw data into cleaned, organized, and actionable formats. Solve data integration problems.
• Ensure high scalability and performance of software components and systems, with optimal use of machine resources.
• Productize data science algorithms within the StreetLight InSight platform, in collaboration with the Application Engineering team.
• Define and implement customized and/or cutting-edge solutions for customers.
• Interface among our teams in San Francisco, Vancouver, and Eastern Europe. Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and data scientists to understand data needs. Participate in peer design and code reviews.

Requirements

• BS/MS in Computer Science, Mathematics, or Engineering from a top university.
• 3-5 years of experience in developing software and/or data products, with programming experience in Python and another language (Scala, Java, Rust, etc.). Strong skills in algorithms, data structures, technical design, and software architecture.
• 2+ years of experience in SQL and relational databases (PostgreSQL or BigQuery preferred). Good understanding of relational concepts.
• Experience with cloud and big data technologies.
• Strong data analysis skills, statistical knowledge, and ability to visualize data effectively.
• Good communication skills — written, visual (presentations), and verbal.
• Ability to deliver results on deadlines and make compromises to enable scalability and productization of algorithms.
• Quick learner and a strong team player.

Preferred skills

• Geo-spatial skills are a plus.
• Knowledge of transportation data or industry is a plus.

Additional details

The base salary range for this position is $118,000.00 to $160,000.00. This reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for new hires across British Columbia, Canada. Individual pay within this range is determined by work location, skills, experience, and education.
