Employment Type: Full Time – Permanent
Salary Range: SP4, Level 6, $116,960.00 - $146,200.00 per year. The final compensation will depend on individual factors such as education, qualifications, experience, and internal equity.

The Opportunity

The Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) is seeking a Senior Data Architect to join the Information Management Technology (IMT) branch. The role involves leading the design and delivery of scalable, secure, and business-aligned data architecture across multiple projects. You will guide data architects and modelers, ensuring standards and semantic consistency are maintained.

You will collaborate with Solution Architects and Product Owners to translate business requirements into effective data solutions and work with Data Practice Leads to drive governance, standardization, and enterprise architecture practices. This role combines hands-on architecture, mentorship, and strategic alignment with the broader data ecosystem.

Daily Responsibilities:

1. Collaborate with Product Owner and Solution Architect to lead data architecture efforts, ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, and aligned with business needs.
2. Translate requirements into data models supporting operational systems and analytics, aligning with enterprise standards.
3. Guide Data and Solution Architects on architecture options to meet business and application needs.
4. Design data access mechanisms like views and stored procedures for secure, high-performance data APIs.
5. Develop strategies for data sharing and exchange, ensuring security and governance.
6. Assess data migration needs and plan for legacy modernization, cloud adoption, and new platforms.
7. Work with the Principal/Enterprise Data Modeler to align project data models with enterprise standards and standards.
8. Partner with Practice Leads to define and promote best practices for architecture, security, and performance.
9. Support governance and compliance across architecture domains.
10. Provide technical leadership and mentorship to Data Architects and Engineers.
11. Maintain comprehensive data architecture documentation.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
• 7–10 years in data architecture, with at least 5 years in enterprise IT data services for analytics.
• Proven experience in end-to-end data architecture, including models and data flows.
• Extensive cloud data architecture experience, preferably in regulated industries.
• Expertise in data modeling tools (ER/Studio, Visio) and SQL scripting.
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
