Job summary

CGL is seeking a senior in-house Legal Services professional for a Regular Full-Time role. The position offers a hybrid work model with 2 days in office, focused on life, accident and sickness, and creditor insurance matters.

The successful candidate will provide strategic legal counsel and work closely with business partners to advance corporate goals. Applicants should have 10+ years of insurance law experience, possess a JD or LL.B., and be licensed to practice in a Canadian province.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years of broad and progressive legal experience in the insurance industry.
• JD or LL.B. degree and licensed to practice law in a Canadian province or territory.
• Solid in-house legal counsel process knowledge and experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal advice and guidance on life, accident and sickness, group benefits and creditor insurance.
• Advise on privacy issues and data protection.
• Draft, review and negotiate contracts, policies and endorsements and internal guidelines.

How You Will Create Impact

• Providing legal advice and guidance on various issues related to all facets of our life, accident and sickness, group benefits and creditor insurance business.
• Advising on privacy issues.
• Negotiating, reviewing and drafting contracts (such as distribution, reinsurance and networking agreements), insurance policies and endorsements, and internal guidelines.
• Cultivating and maintaining effective relationships with key legal and business personnel.
• Representing the organization in industry groups and committees, pro‑actively identifying and actioning process improvements, and keeping current on legislation and legal developments.
