Job summary

CGL is seeking a Counsel, Client Solutions (Regulatory) to provide general legal advice and guidance to stakeholders, focusing on the property and casualty insurance business. The role includes reviewing, drafting and negotiating contracts, and supporting privacy and compliance teams.

You will work in a hybrid setting and collaborate across departments, bringing at least five years of relevant insurance-law experience and a JD or LL.B., licensed to practice in Canada.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of broad and progressive legal experience in the insurance industry.
• J.D. or LL.B. and licensed to practice law in a Canadian province or territory.
• Solid in-house legal counsel process knowledge and experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide general legal advice and direction to stakeholders, with emphasis on property and casualty insurance.
• Review, draft and negotiate contracts (distribution, reinsurance and networking agreements), insurance policies and endorsements, and internal guidelines.
• Advise on privacy issues and support compliance and privacy teams.
• Cultivate and maintain relationships with key legal and business personnel and represent the organization in industry groups.

As a Counsel, Client Solutions (Regulatory) you will provide general legal advice and direction to various stakeholders, with an emphasis on supporting our property and casualty insurance business. You will support a range of strategic projects, offer guidance and assistance to our compliance and privacy teams, and review, draft and negotiate contracts.

• Providing legal advice and guidance on various issues related to all facets of our property and casualty business, including both personal and commercial lines.
• Advising on privacy issues.
• Negotiating, reviewing and drafting contracts (such as distribution, reinsurance and networking agreements), insurance policies and endorsements, and internal guidelines.
• Cultivating and maintaining effective relationships with key legal and business personnel.
• Representing the organization in industry groups and committees, pro-actively identifying and actioning process improvements, and keeping current on legislation and legal developments

To Join Our Team

• You have a minimum of 5 years of broad and progressive legal experience in the insurance industry, with a particular focus on property and casualty insurance, including both personal and commercial lines.
• You have a Juris Doctorate (J.D.) or a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree and are licensed to practice law in a Canadian province or territory.
• You have solid in-house legal counsel process knowledge and experience

Expected salary/hourly range $104,717 - $154,700+
The salary amount for the successful candidate is determined by Co-operators in its discretion and will vary depending on several criteria including but not limited to: local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualification, experience and education.
Employees may also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn additional compensation tied to individual and/or business performance, or other business metrics.
