Job summary

CGL in Ontario is seeking an experienced in-house Counsel to join our Legal Services team. This regular full-time, hybrid role focuses on property and casualty insurance, with both personal and commercial lines. You will provide strategic legal advice and help shape policy within our organisation.

You will negotiate and draft contracts, advise on privacy issues, and collaborate with business partners to implement efficient processes. A JD or LL.B.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of broad legal experience in the insurance industry.
• Licensed to practice law in a Canadian province or territory.
• Solid in-house legal counsel process knowledge.

How You Will Create Impact

• Providing legal advice and guidance on various issues related to all facets of our property and casualty business, including both personal and commercial lines of business.
• Advising on privacy issues.
• Negotiating, reviewing and drafting contracts (such as distribution, reinsurance and networking agreements), insurance policies and endorsements, and internal guidelines.
• Cultivating and maintaining effective relationships with key legal and business personnel.
• Representing the organization in industry groups and committees, pro-actively identifying and actioning process improvements, and keeping current on legislation and legal developments

To Join Our Team

• You have a minimum of 5 years of broad and progressive legal experience in the insurance industry, with a particular focus on property and casualty insurance, including both personal and commercial lines.
• You have a Juris Doctorate (J.D.) or a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree and are licensed to practice law in a Canadian province or territory.
• You have solid in-house legal counsel process knowledge and experience

Expected salary/hourly range $104,717 - $154,700+

The salary amount for the successful candidate is determined by Co-operators in its discretion and will vary depending on several criteria including but not limited to: local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualification, experience and education.

Employees may also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn additional compensation tied to individual and/or business performance, or other business metrics.
