Job summary

Holt Renfrew seeks a Senior Legal Counsel to proactively advise internal clients and support a range of legal matters across the business. The role collaborates with Product, IT, Finance, Privacy, Marketing, Procurement, and Operations teams, leading project teams and guiding on governance and policy matters.

The ideal candidate has a JD/LLB, Ontario bar admission, 8+ years of post-call experience, and a strong background in corporate and commercial law, IP, employment, and real estate.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (JD) or Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from an accredited law school.
• Member in good standing with the Ontario bar.
• A minimum of 8 years of post-call experience at a large national law firm or in-house setting.
• Strong background in corporate and commercial law, contract review and negotiation, governance, IP, employment, real estate, and privacy.
• Demonstrated leadership and influencing skills at all levels of the organization.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; a team player who can lead and contribute as required.

Responsibilities

• Independently draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements (vendor agreements, MSAs, SOWs, NDAs, licensing, IT service and marketing agreements).
• Provide guidance on contract interpretation, risk allocation, and negotiation strategy.
• Support product, marketing, and procurement teams in structuring commercial transactions.
• Lead project teams and advise on legal and regulatory requirements.
• Guide on IP, Real Estate, marketing matters including licensing and trademark usage.
