Senior Convention Service Manager

We are currently hiring a Senior Convention Service Manager to join our team at the Valhalla Hotel & Conference Centre in Thunder Bay, ON. The Convention Service Manager is responsible for planning, organizing, and managing details for large group and convention bookings, including menus and setup. The Senior CSM collaborates with other CSMs to support their daily duties, ensuring maximization of room and meeting space, revenues, and profit while delivering quality service. Responsibilities include event planning, client coordination from contract signing, VIP needs, amenities, group resumes, and assisting with BEOs for group and catering. The role also involves conducting walkthroughs, participating in negotiations, and ensuring all event details are executed flawlessly.

Key Responsibilities

1. Serve group and catering clients proactively
2. Coordinate logistics for group room blocks, F&B, meeting spaces, and billing
3. Increase banquet revenues through upselling and catering sales growth
4. Attend BEO and GRC/pickup meetings
5. Participate in trial meals and events, ensuring proper execution or handoff to operations
6. Maintain client communication logs and handle inquiries promptly
7. Monitor group room blocks and generate resumes for departments
8. Forecast and budget F&B revenues
9. Collaborate with the Area DOSM and external vendors to ensure client satisfaction
10. Follow up with clients post-event, including thank-you notes and addressing feedback
11. Work closely with sales managers and banquet department to ensure flawless events
12. Oversee operation coordination and detailed execution of banquet event orders

Qualifications

• 2-3 years experience as a hotel Convention Services Manager in a 3-5 star property
• Leadership experience preferred
• Hospitality diploma is an asset
• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and hotel PMS
• Organized, results-oriented, with excellent time management
• Proven team motivation and performance leadership
• Creative problem-solving skills
• Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
• Availability for nights, weekends, holidays, and occasional manager-on-duty shifts
• Class G Driver’s License and willingness to travel
• Legal authorization to work in Canada
