Senior Convention Service Manager

We are currently hiring a Senior Convention Service Manager to join our team at our Valhalla Hotel & Conference Centre location in Thunder Bay, ON. The Convention Service Manager is responsible for planning, organizing, and managing the in-house details for large group and convention bookings (e.g., menus, set-up, etc.). The Senior CSM works closely with other CSMs to support their daily duties and responsibilities, ensuring maximization of room and meeting space, revenues, and profit while delivering quality service. Focus areas include event planning from contract signing, VIP needs, amenities, group resumes, and assisting in completing BEOs for group and local catering. The role involves conducting walk-throughs of function spaces prior to events and participating in negotiations regarding rooms, rates, and related requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Area Director of Sales & Marketing, responsibilities include:

1. Serving group and catering clients proactively.
2. Establishing logistics for group room blocks, F&B, meeting space, and billing.
3. Upselling to increase banquet revenues and catering sales.
4. Attending BEO and GRC/Pickup meetings.
5. Ensuring proper execution of events, including trial meals and weddings.
6. Maintaining client communication records and handling inquiries promptly.
7. Monitoring group room blocks and generating resumes for departments.
8. Forecasting and budgeting F&B revenues.
9. Collaborating with other teams to ensure client satisfaction and flawless event execution.
10. Developing innovative menus in partnership with the Executive Chef.
11. Providing direction and evaluating banquet operations.

What We Are Looking For...

• 2-3 years of hotel Convention Services Manager experience in a 3-5 star property.
• Experience leading teams preferred.
• Hospitality diploma is a plus.
• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and PMS knowledge.
• Organized, results-driven, with excellent time management skills.
• Proven leadership and motivation skills.
• Creative problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to work under pressure and in a fast-paced environment.
• Availability for nights, weekends, holidays, and occasional Manager-On-Duty shifts.
• Class G Driver's License and willingness to travel.
• Legally authorized to work in Canada.
