Senior Convention Service Manager

We are currently hiring a Senior Convention Service Manager to join our team at the Valhalla Hotel & Conference Centre in Thunder Bay, ON. The Convention Service Manager is responsible for planning, organizing, and managing the details for large group and convention bookings (e.g., menus, set-up). The Senior CSM works closely with other CSMs to support their daily duties, ensuring maximization of room and meeting space, revenues, and profit while delivering a high-quality product. The role includes all aspects of event planning, from signing group contracts to VIP needs, amenities, and group resumes. Assisting in the completion of BEOs for group and local catering, conducting walk-throughs of function spaces prior to events, and participating in negotiations for rooms, rates, and related requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve group and catering customers proactively.
• Coordinate logistics for group room blocks, F&B, meeting spaces, and billing.
• Increase banquet revenues through upselling and catering sales growth.
• Attend BEO and GRC/Pickup meetings.
• Participate in trial meals and wedding events, ensuring proper execution or handoff.
• Maintain client communications and handle inquiries promptly.
• Monitor room blocks and generate resumes for departments.
• Forecast and budget F&B revenues.
• Implement strategies with CSMs as outlined by the Area DOSM.
• Work with vendors to ensure client satisfaction.
• Follow up with clients post-event and address feedback.
• Collaborate with Sales Managers to ensure client satisfaction.
• Provide innovative menus and setups, working with the Executive Chef.
• Coordinate with banquet operations to deliver flawless events.

Qualifications

• 2-3 years of experience as a hotel Convention Services Manager in a 3-5 star property.
• Experience leading hotel teams preferred.
• Hospitality diploma is an asset.
• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and hotel management systems.
• Organized, results-oriented, with good time management skills.
• Motivational leadership skills.
• Problem-solving and creative thinking abilities.
• Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
• Availability for nights, weekends, holidays, and occasional Manager-On-Duty shifts.
• Class G Driver's License and willingness to travel.
• Legally authorized to work in Canada.
