Job summary

Deveraux Group of Companies in Calgary seeks a seasoned Controller to lead our finance team. You will oversee accounting operations for multiple entities, drive month-end close, budgeting, and tax compliance while collaborating with operations to improve processes and controls.

Reporting to the SVP of Finance, you will mentor two staff, integrate Sage Intacct, and contribute to automation initiatives in a growing real estate portfolio.

Qualifications

• CPA designation with a proven track record in financial leadership.
• 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 2+ years leading accounting staff.
• Strong technical accounting knowledge with a practical, solutions-oriented mindset.
• Experience building or improving month-end close processes in a multi-entity environment.
• Experience with accounting system conversions or integrations is a plus.
• Advanced Excel skills; experience with Sage Intacct/QuickBooks Desktop is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all accounting operations for assigned entities, ensuring timely financial statements and management reporting.
• Lead month-end close processes, including checklists, reconciliations, and reviews.
• Lead budgeting and forecasting for assigned entities.
• Monitor cash flows and coordinate loan requests to support liquidity.
• Review vendor payments and payroll submissions for accuracy and compliance.
• Ensure GST returns and corporate tax filings are prepared and reviewed.
• Prepare ad hoc reporting and analytics to support business needs.
• Work with operational teams to identify workflow gaps and implement fixes.
• Drive automation, controls, and documentation improvements in finance.
• Lead, mentor, and develop two direct reports, including recruitment and onboarding.
