Job summary

Vaco Recruiter Services is assisting a client in Calgary to hire a Controller for a 3-to-6-month contract. You will lead financial management, oversee month-end close, and ensure ASPE compliance while driving FP&A and strategic guidance.

The role requires a CPA designation, 10 years of hands-on accounting experience (ASPE), and 3–5 years of manager-level leadership. Strong Excel and AI tool proficiency, with private equity and M&A experience highly preferred, is necessary.

Qualifications

• Ten years of progressive accounting experience (ASPE)
• 3–5 years of manager-level experience leading a team
• CPA designation
• Excellent Excel and propensity for AI tools
• Ability to handle growth and change
• Private equity, M&A/restructuring, and FP&A experience preferred
• Public accounting experience is an asset, industry experience preferred
• Experience with QuickBooks Online is an asset
• Aspiration to grow into a leadership position

Responsibilities

• Lead financial management including budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, reporting, and investments.
• Maintain financial controls, regulatory compliance, and banking/stakeholder relationships.
• Prepare financial statements, bank reporting, compliance certificates, and management analyses.
• Oversee month-end/year-end close, ASPE compliance, consolidations, and support M&A activities.
• Manage operating and capital budgets, monitor variances, and drive corrective actions.
• Coordinate audits, tax filings, tax planning, and multi-provincial regulatory compliance.
• Oversee payroll, commissions, benefits administration, and related-party cost allocations.
• Improve financial systems and reporting; advanced Excel, AI analytics, and consolidation experience.
• Provide strategic financial guidance on growth, profitability, cash flow, and EBITDA impacts.
• Lead the finance team and support investor activities, including QoE reviews and financial modeling.
