PNL Recruitment is partnering with a rapidly growing, privately held Calgary construction company to recruit a Controller.
This is a newly created position.
Not because someone left. Because the business has grown.
The company has reached the point where an accounting structure that worked extremely well at an earlier stage now needs to evolve with the size and sophistication of the business.
This isn't a turnaround. You're not walking into a mess.
You're joining a successful, well-organized business that has simply outgrown the accounting infrastructure that got it here.
Working closely with the CFO, you'll take increasing ownership of the accounting function while improving reporting, systems and processes and helping build the finance infrastructure required for the company's next stage of growth.
This isn't about maintaining someone else's department. It's about helping build your own.
Duties include but are not limited to:
You're an experienced accounting and finance professional who can operate at a Controller level while still being comfortable in the weeds.
You're a builder.
You enjoy understanding how a business actually works, challenging outdated processes and finding better ways to get things done.
The successful candidate will have the following:
Construction experience is strongly preferred. CPA is an asset, but it is not mandatory.
More important is your ability to understand the business, solve problems, improve systems and help build something for the long term.
This is primarily an office-based Calgary position with a high-trust, high-accountability culture and considerable flexibility around how professionals manage their time.
The organization is entrepreneurial, growing and intentionally less corporate. People are given autonomy, expected to take ownership and trusted to deliver.
The opportunity includes:
If you're looking for a polished accounting department to inherit and simply maintain, this probably isn't your role.
If you're energized by the idea of building the next version of one, we'd like to talk.
We value fairness, confidentiality, and human judgment in every stage of our hiring process. We do not use automated or AI-driven screening tools to assess applications. Each submission is reviewed by an experienced recruiter to ensure a thoughtful and equitable evaluation of every candidate.
Thank you for your interest in this role. One of our Recruiters will be in touch with you if your profile meets the requirements for the role and the expectations of our clients. Please note that all candidates must be permitted to work in Canada to be considered for this opportunity.
