What you’ll be doing
As a Senior Consultant, Business Controls, in the Governance & Controls team, you’ll lead the management of material, systemic and emerging risks for Deposits & Payments LOB.You’ll develop and implement integrated control improvement solutions across all products and distribution channels.You’ll manage key controls to mitigate operational exposures and potential losses.You’ll provide support of CIBC’s Control Framework to ensure compliance to regulatory, legislative, and operational requirements, including the efficient and effective management of deficiency remediation. You’ll act as the key relationship manager for the business.

How you’ll succeed
Relationship Building/Management - Key relationship manager and collaborative consultant with business partners, and 2nd and 3rd lines of defence for all matters relating to operational risk. Manage relationships at peer or director level, as well as project/initiative managers within the assigned Line of Business (LOB). Act as primary sponsor providing advice and expertise on business initiatives.
Control Framework Execution - You understand and communicate the Control Framework requirements to LOB partners to ensure awareness, understanding of accountabilities. You lead the completion of all requirements including Deficiency Management, KRIs, incident reporting, RCSAs, risk items, etc. You may act as the Maintenance Officer for OPC/RCM controls. You develop and recommend new/changes to formal control testing programs. You develop reporting and summary of control testing results (MRGC/ERGC) and support the LOB/Executive sign-off process.
Risk Assessment/Remediation - Work closely with the LOB partners to proactively identify risk exposures and control gaps, to analyze and synthesize risk exposures, operational losses, root causes and control gaps and determine materiality. Propose recommendations to mitigate risk exposures/control gaps. Lead the Incident Reporting investigation and Change Initiative Risk Assessment(CIRA) process, ensuring all material risks are identified and compliant to the CIBC CIRA policy and process. Manage all deficiencies for the LOB, ensuring closure dates are met and no deficiencies go past due. Lead the implementation of remediation plans for targeted control gaps/special projects.
Risk Consulting - Lead the completion of all CIBC Control Framework requirements. Act as the risk and control Subject Matter Expert (SME) providing expert advice to LOB partners. Lead Internal Audits, Compliance exams for the business. Provide ongoing management of self-assessment processes. Participate in larger more complex business, governance and regulatory projects to identify risk and control issues, recommend solutions and develop control requirements. Provide expertise and strong analytical skills to first understand the requirements and then identify system and process controls. Ensure the proper business balance between controls, business effectiveness and client impacts is obtained through implementation of innovation solutions.
Analytical - You proactively identify risk exposures and control gaps. You analyze and synthesize risk exposures, operational losses,root causes and control gaps.You proactively assess and recommend self-assessed deficiencies.You propose recommendations to mitigate risk exposures and control gaps.
Who you are
You can demonstrate experience. In governance, business controls, compliance, audit, and/or operational risk management in banking/financial services sector. You have extensive knowledge of risk management principles, practices, policies and procedures. You understand and have the ability to communicate the Control Framework requirements (Operational Risk Profile, Scenarios, Deficiency Management, Incident Reporting, Key Risk Indicators) to LOB partners to ensure awareness, understanding of accountabilities. Experience and knowledge of payment and deposit products is an asset.
