Job summary

Manulife John Hancock in Toronto seeks a Senior Compliance Consultant to lead advisory and independent oversight for Canada Segment's Individual Insurance, Group Benefits and Affinity businesses.

You will interpret complex regulatory requirements, provide risk-based guidance, mentor teams, and drive cross-functional initiatives with Legal, Internal Audit and business partners to strengthen compliance maturity.

Qualifications

• Experience interpreting complex regulatory requirements and translating them into practical guidance.
• Ability to lead and coordinate complex initiatives with multiple stakeholders and partners.
• Strong coaching and mentoring skills to strengthen team capability and effectiveness.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain compliance programs, policies, procedures, and oversight activities.
• Interpret legislation, regulations, industry rules, and regulatory expectations; translate into practical guidance.
• Serve as a subject matter expert and escalation point for complex compliance matters with independent judgment.
• Lead or coordinate significant compliance initiatives, regulatory change implementation activities, and control testing.
• Use AI-enabled tools, data analytics, reporting insights, automation, and process improvement to enhance compliance oversight and reporting.
• Partner with Compliance, Legal, Internal Audit and other partners to drive consistent interpretation and proactive communication.
• Influence business decisions and drive outcomes through subject matter expertise and stakeholder engagement.
• Represent Compliance on cross-segment and regulatory initiatives and forums to share insights.
• Assess compliance risks and recommend mitigation strategies; escalate where appropriate.
• Provide informal leadership through mentoring, coaching, and training.
• Develop and deliver targeted compliance training and awareness programs.
• Prepare and deliver compliance reporting, metrics, and analysis; support audits and examinations.
