Job summary

Gallagher in Calgary is seeking a Senior Underwriter to evaluate new business submissions and manage a book of commercial P&C risks with adherence to service standards.

You will cultivate strong broker relationships, exercise judgment within authority, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive profitable growth while ensuring client needs are met.

Qualifications

• 5 years of Commercial P&C Underwriting experience.
• CIP, CAIB, CRM or other relevant certifications/designations highly desired.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite new business, renewals, and endorsements within authority and guidelines; quote, negotiate, bind, and authorize risks.
• Assess risk acceptability, obtain information as needed, render approval/decline decisions, and refer outside authority.
• Coordinate and process renewals with accuracy, coordinating with underwriting teams and broker partners.
• Build and maintain strong broker relationships through ongoing communication and guidance.
• Identify and report broker training and educational opportunities through day-to-day interactions and industry events.
• Travel to other Canadian provinces as required to attend client meetings.

Overview

We are looking for a Senior Underwriter in Calgary!

As an Underwriter, you will be responsible for evaluating new business submissions, managing an existing book of business while adhering to company service standards. This role involves exceptional carrier relationships, as well as a high level of professionalism and diplomacy.

How you'll make an impact

• Underwrite new business, renewals, and endorsements within assigned authority and guidelines; quote, negotiate, bind, and authorize risks in line with departmental business plans.
• Assess risk acceptability, obtain additional information as required, render approval/decline decisions, and recommend solutions or referrals to company underwriters when outside authority.
• Coordinate and process renewals while ensuring all files, forms, and client details are accurate and up to date, working closely with underwriting teams and broker partners.
• Build and maintain strong broker relationships through ongoing communication, providing guidance, support, and cross-functional collaboration as needed.
• Identify and report broker training and educational opportunities through day-to-day interactions and participation in industry events and tradeshows.
• Travel to other Canadian provinces as required to attend client meetings.

Education & Experience:

• Secondary School Diploma required, College or University Degree strongly preferred.
• 5 years of Commercial P&C Underwriting experience desired.
• CIP, CAIB, CRM, or other relevant certifications/designations highly desired.
