Job summary

Gallagher in Canada is seeking a Senior Underwriter to evaluate new business submissions, manage a book of business, and uphold service standards. You will cultivate carrier relationships and maintain professionalism and diplomacy.

You will underwrite, renew, and endorse risks within authority; assess risk acceptability, gather information, render decisions, and collaborate with brokers. A College/University degree and 5 years of Commercial P&C underwriting are preferred.

Qualifications

• 5 years of Commercial P&C Underwriting experience.
• Secondary School Diploma; College/University Degree strongly preferred.
• Certifications such as CIP, CAIB, CRM are desirable.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite new business, renewals, and endorsements within authority; quote, negotiate, bind, and authorize risks as per plans.
• Assess risk acceptability, obtain required information, render approval/decline decisions, and refer outside authority when needed.
• Coordinate and process renewals; ensure files and client details are accurate; collaborate with underwriting teams and brokers.
• Build and maintain strong broker relationships through ongoing communication and guidance.
• Identify and report broker training opportunities via daily interactions and industry events.

Overview

We are looking for a Senior Underwriter to join our team! As the Underwriter, you will be responsible for evaluating new business submissions, managing an existing book of business while adhering to company service standards. This role involves exceptional carrier relationships, as well as a high level of professionalism and diplomacy.

How You'll Make An Impact

• Underwrite new business, renewals, and endorsements within assigned authority and guidelines; quote, negotiate, bind, and authorize risks in line with departmental business plans.
• Assess risk acceptability, obtain additional information as required, render approval/decline decisions, and recommend solutions or referrals to company underwriters when outside authority.
• Coordinate and process renewals while ensuring all files, forms, and client details are accurate and up to date, working closely with underwriting teams and broker partners.
• Build and maintain strong broker relationships through ongoing communication, providing guidance, support, and cross-functional collaboration as needed.
• Identify and report broker training and educational opportunities through day-to-day interactions and participation in industry events and tradeshows.

Education & Experience

• Secondary School Diploma required, College or University Degree strongly preferred.
