Senior Civil Estimator

Summary

Under the supervision of the Chief Estimator, the Senior Civil Estimator is responsible for preparing cost estimates for various project types, including bid, design-build, and alternative delivery models. This role is vital in supporting The Miller Group’s vision of building greatness through innovation, accountability, and employee development.

Responsibilities

• Develop strategic and competitive tender plans
• Guide the preparation of accurate, timely estimates and bid documents
• Understand design/build, ADP, and build-to-spec contracts
• Interpret project drawings, specifications, and proposals accurately
• Prepare project schedules and drafts
• Conduct quantity take-offs from drawings and specifications
• Create detailed estimates using cost history and software tools
• Solicit quotations from suppliers and subcontractors
• Peer review estimates of other team members
• Train and guide junior staff
• Assist in project forecasting and scope management
• Manage bid document distribution and follow-up
• Establish relationships with suppliers and subcontractors
• Participate in site visits and meetings
• Support project startup and negotiations
• Maintain historical cost data and update estimating systems

Qualifications

• 7-10 years experience in civil estimation, especially in heavy civil transportation and bridge projects
• Post-secondary education in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field
• Proficiency in reading technical construction documents
• Strong time management skills in high-pressure environments
• Experience with heavy bid estimating software is an asset
• Proficiency in MS Office; knowledge of Bluebeam and scheduling software preferred
• Effective team collaboration skills
• Flexible schedule and valid driver’s license required
