Job summary

Affirm, Inc. is seeking a seasoned Staff Software Engineer to drive our CI team. This remote Canada role focuses on reliability, scalability, and efficiency of development pipelines, enabling engineers to ship high-quality software quickly.

You will design and optimize systems for automated testing, build orchestration, and deployment, mentor CI engineers, and collaborate with engineering leadership to align CI with product goals.

Qualifications

• Proven experience driving and leading engineering efforts in CI, build systems, or developer productivity domains.
• Strong background in modern build systems such as GitHub, Buildkite, and Artifactory.
• Familiarity with cloud-native environments (AWS, Kubernetes) and infrastructure-as-code practices.
• Solid programming background (Python, Kotlin, Java, or similar) and ability to guide technical decision-making.
• Excellent problem-solving skills with long-term vision and short-term impact.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
• Proficiency with managing build systems and frameworks for large monorepos.
• Active contributor to open source projects or experience at a leading tech company is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Own the design, scalability, and reliability of build and pipelines across multiple services and platforms.
• Improve feedback cycles by optimizing build times, tests, and reporting.
• Implement monitoring, alerting, and incident response for CI systems.
• Collaborate with across engineering to ensure smooth integrations and deployment workflows.
• Identify developer pain points and lead productivity initiatives through tooling and automation.
• Evangelize CI/CD practices to raise engineering efficiency standards.
• Contribute to and drive the vision for CI and developer productivity infrastructure.
• Lead and mentor CI engineers, fostering ownership and collaboration.
• Partner with engineering leadership to align CI systems with product and platform goals.
