Citi in Mississauga is seeking a Senior Backend Java Engineer to design scalable backend systems that power critical applications. You will architect resilient microservices using Spring, mentor developers, and influence technical direction within Citi's technology organization.

The role requires hands-on coding, collaboration with product managers, research into AI tools, and a hybrid work model with three days in the office and two remote.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software development experience.
• 3+ years leading engineering teams.
• Strong Java backend and RESTful API experience.
• Experience with microservices and event-driven design.

Responsibilities

• Design and build scalable backend solutions in Java for Citi.
• Write and review production code daily across the development lifecycle.
• Lead planning and execution of major development initiatives from design through delivery.
• Conduct code reviews and establish coding standards that raise code quality.
• Mentor a small team of developers and share technical expertise.
• Evaluate new technologies to improve team productivity and product quality.
• Partner with product managers to shape technical strategy and roadmap.
• Research emerging AI and machine learning tools and apply them to strengthen engineering practices.
