Job summary

Purolator is seeking a Backend Engineer to design, implement, test, and maintain backend services for a high‑volume logistics platform in Mississauga. You’ll own services end to end—from design to deployment—with a focus on reliability, throughput, and clean architecture.

You will work with Java,PostgreSQL, and AWS, contribute to automated tests, and collaborate on API design while owning incidents and keeping services healthy for the long term.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent work experience.

Responsibilities

• Design and build backend services in Java, with an emphasis on clean, maintainable architecture.
• Design and build event‑driven services and the messaging/streaming flows that connect them.
• Write and maintain automated tests (unit, integration, and service‑level) as a first‑class part of your work not as an afterthought.
• Apply established design patterns appropriately (and know when not to reach for one).
• Work with AWS‑hosted infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines to deliver changes safely and frequently.
• Model, query, and tune data in PostgreSQL which means writing SQL you can reason about, not just ORM output.
• Collaborate on API design and contracts with other teams consuming your services.
• Support and operate the services you build by investigating production issues, own incidents in your area, and keep things healthy in the long run.
• Participate in code review, raise the bar on quality, and help keep the codebase honest.
