Affirm, Inc. seeks an experienced Senior Software Engineer to architect and scale their data infrastructure, focusing on relational and distributed SQL databases (MySQL, TiDB) and Kubernetes-based deployment.

You will own the control plane, migrations with zero downtime, and networking between services and storage. This role emphasizes reliability, performance, and ownership across global teams.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience.
• Experience deploying backend databases at scale.
• Strong knowledge of distributed DBs and SQL tuning.
• Proficient with Kubernetes, automation tooling and Terraform.

Responsibilities

• Build and operate the control plane for large-scale distributed SQL databases.
• Design reliability-focused migrations across multi-tenant clusters with zero downtime.
• Own networking stack between services and storage on Kubernetes.
• Deliver quarterly team goals and support engineers through delivery.
• Collaborate with product, design and analytics through lifecycle and decisions that consider trade-offs.
• Identify and solve project, process, technology, or business issues.
• Support operations and on-call efforts.
• Foster code quality and ownership via reviews and standards.
