ARS Responds Canada is seeking a Senior Azure SQL DBA to administer SQL Server across on‑premises and Azure cloud environments. You will lead performance tuning using Query Store, execution plans, and DMVs, while optimizing complex T‑SQL, indexes, and I/O to sustain peak availability.

You will design HA/DR strategies with Always On, plan migrations, and manage service tiers, geo‑replication, and security controls, leveraging PowerShell and Azure CLI for automation.

Formación

• 8+ years of database administration experience with strong MSSQL and Azure DBA expertise.
• Advanced hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server, Azure SQL Database/MI, and SQL Server on Azure VMs.
• Deep knowledge of Query Store, performance monitoring, and workload analysis.

Responsabilidades

• Administer SQL Server across on‑premises, Azure SQL Database, MI, and SQL Server on Azure VMs.
• Lead performance diagnostics using Query Store, execution plans, DMVs, Extended Events, and monitoring tools.
• Optimize T-SQL, indexing, statistics, partitioning, memory, TempDB, parallelism, locking, and I/O.
• Detect plan regressions and bottlenecks; establish baselines and forecast capacity.
• Govern Azure SQL automatic tuning and Database Advisor recommendations with safeguards.
• Plan high availability and DR using Always On, failover groups, replication, backups, and PITR.
• Migrate, upgrade, patch, consolidate, and modernize cloud environments with minimal disruption.
• Manage service tiers, elastic pools, geo-replication, private connectivity, firewalls, and cost optimization.
• Implement least privilege, Entra authentication, managed identities, encryption, auditing, and secrets management.
• Automate provisioning, health checks, backup validation, and reporting with PowerShell and Azure CLI.
• Own incidents, outages, root-cause analysis, and vendor escalations; drive remediation.
• Maintain standards, runbooks, dashboards, and knowledge articles; mentor L1/L2 teams.
