Job summary

Cascades in Scarborough, ON is hiring a Truck Mechanic to support daily operations on the shop floor. You will perform maintenance, repairs, and inspections on road and plant equipment, while ensuring safety standards and regulatory compliance are met.

A strong focus on documentation, communication, and inventory control is required. The role offers an afternoon shift, full-time hours, and a benefits package including group insurance, retirement plan, and bonus programs.

Qualifications

• Red Seal 310J or 310T required.
• G Class license or higher required.
• Certification must be valid and in good standing.
• Minimum 2 years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

• Organize and keep areas clean on the floor daily.
• Maintain clear, respectful communication with staff.
• Provide documentation of valid certifications as required.
• Process repair requisitions for transport and production teams.
• Ensure service and maintenance meet regulatory requirements (MTO, MOL, MOE).
• Coordinate daily scheduling with Lead Hands for all equipment.
• Receive and sign for stock, allocate by BIN locations.
• Help control inventory levels and stock accuracy.
• Perform preventative maintenance checks and servicing.
• Facilitate safety inspections and report faults promptly.
• Repair equipment and replace parts as needed.
• Assess whether items require external repair.

What you’ll do

As a Truck Mechanic, you’ll be at the heart of operations - right on the floor where materials take shape. Your day-to-day:

• Organization and housekeeping daily as outlined by the company
• Clear, respectful communication and interpersonal skills
• Documentation of valid certification in good standing as required
• Ensure repair requisition tickets are readily available for transportation and production staff
• Ensure all service and maintenance practices meet the regulatory requirements for the MTO, MOL, and the MOE
• Work with Lead Hands to coordinate and control the daily scheduling of service and repair of all road and plant equipment
• Receive and sign for stock inventory from suppliers and insure properly allocated by BIN locations as outlined by Lead hand.
• Assist in providing control over parts inventory ensuring that inventory levels are kept within the predetermined minimum / maximum
• Perform preventative maintenance checks and servicing
• Facilitate safety inspections
• Repair equipment and replace parts where appropriate
• Assess equipment to see if they require to be sent out for repair
• Recognize and report faults or malfunctions on all company equipment, not limited to loaders, skid steer, forklifts and hydraulic systems
• Must adhere to safety OHS codes and conduct

Your strengths as a Truck Mechanic

• Red Seal 310J or 310T
• Basic Set of hand tools used for truck repair required
• Valid G Class license or greater
• Document of valid certification in good standing required
• 2 years’ experience

Skills:

• Experience using pneumatic tools
• Basic electric systems diagnostics and repairs and reading electrical schematics
• Air brakes and air brake systems
• Tailgate assembly skills, assembly, diagnostic and repairs
• Basic use of torches and welding when required is an asset
• Preventative maintenance including electrical, interior, air brake, tire, and body maintenance as per Cascades preventative maintenance sheet.
