Job summary

Cascades is seeking a Truck Mechanic in Scarborough to support on-floor operations and ensure timely repair of road and plant equipment. You will be responsible for maintenance, inspections, documentation, and safe operations in a health-and-safety focused environment.

The role requires a Red Seal, a valid G class license, and at least two years of experience, with knowledge of pneumatics, electrical systems, airbags and welding considered an asset.

Qualifications

• Red Seal 310J or 310T required.
• G Class license or greater required.
• 2 years’ experience required.
• Experience using pneumatic tools preferred.
• Reading electrical schematics and basic diagnostics helpful.
• Air brake systems knowledge a plus.

Responsibilities

• Organize and maintain a clean, safe work area.
• Communicate clearly with team on floor operations.
• Document valid certifications in good standing as required.
• Prepare repair requisition tickets for transportation and production staff.
• Perform preventative maintenance and safety inspections.
• Repair equipment and replace parts as needed; assess when units should be sent out for repair.

What you’ll do

As a Truck Mechanic, you’ll be at the heart of operations - right on the floor where materials take shape. Your day-to-day:

• Organization and housekeeping daily as outlined by the company
• Clear, respectful communication and interpersonal skills
• Documentation of valid certification in good standing as required
• Ensure repair requisition tickets are readily available for transportation and production staff
• Ensure all service and maintenance practices meet the regulatory requirements for the MTO, MOL, and the MOE
• Work with Lead Hands to coordinate and control the daily scheduling of service and repair of all road and plant equipment
• Receive and sign for stock inventory from suppliers and insure properly allocated by BIN locations as outlined by Lead hand.
• Assist in providing control over parts inventory ensuring that inventory levels are kept within the predetermined minimum / maximum
• Perform preventative maintenance checks and servicing
• Facilitate safety inspections
• Repair equipment and replace parts where appropriate
• Assess equipment to see if they require to be sent out for repair
• Recognize and report faults or malfunctions on all company equipment, not limited to loaders, skid steer, forklifts and hydraulic systems
• Must adhere to safety OHS codes and conduct

Your strengths as a Truck Mechanic

• Red Seal 310J or 310T
• Basic Set of hand tools used for truck repair required
• Valid G Class license or greater
• Document of valid certification in good standing required
• 2 years’ experience

Skills:

• Experience using pneumatic tools
• Basic electric systems diagnostics and repairs and reading electrical schematics
• Air brakes and air brake systems
• Tailgate assembly skills, assembly, diagnostic and repairs
• Basic use of torches and welding when required is an asset
• Preventative maintenance including electrical, interior, air brake, tire, and body maintenance as per Cascades preventative maintenance sheet.
