Job summary

Promation in Oakville, Ontario, is seeking a Senior Applications Engineer to lead proposals for nuclear and automation projects. Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline with strong proposal experience.
  • 5–10 years in mechanical/electrical design or applications engineering, preferably nuclear.
  • 3+ years in proposals, applications, sales, or business development.
  • P.Eng. registration or eligibility in Ontario preferred; EIT considered.
  • Experience with robotics, machine controls, and manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead major RFQ/RFP opportunities from assessment through submission.
  • Develop proposal strategies aligned with customer requirements and objectives.
  • Lead customer needs assessments, site visits, and technical discussions.
  • Develop scope, technical solutions, estimates, and content for proposals.
  • Coordinate inputs across Engineering, Project Management, Procurement, Manufacturing, QA, and suppliers.
  • Build relationships with customers and identify future opportunities.
  • Mentor junior Applications Engineers and improve estimating accuracy.

Role Description

We are seeking a Senior Applications Engineer to lead the development of complex technical proposals and engineered solutions for nuclear and automation applications.

This role will take ownership of major RFQ/RFP opportunities, develop winning technical strategies, create concepts and estimates, and work directly with customers and cross-functional teams to turn complex requirements into competitive, executable solutions.

Core Duties & Responsibilities
Proposals & Applications
  • Lead major RFQ/RFP opportunities from initial assessment through final submission
  • Develop proposal Win Strategies aligned with customer requirements and business objectives
  • Lead customer needs assessments, site visits, walk-downs, and technical discussions
  • Develop project scope, technical solutions, estimates, and proposal content
  • Coordinate proposal inputs across Engineering, Project Management, Procurement, Manufacturing, QA, and suppliers
  • Build trusted relationships with key customers and identify future opportunities
  • Support Business Development and represent Promation at customer meetings and industry events
Technical & Engineering
  • Develop concepts and technical proposals for complex nuclear and automation applications
  • Create 2D/3D CAD concepts and equipment layouts using SolidWorks
  • Review RFQ/RFP specifications, codes, standards, deliverables, and technical requirements
  • Develop cost estimates in collaboration with Procurement, Engineering, and suppliers
  • Identify and resolve technical risks and uncertainties during the proposal stage
  • Integrate robotics, machine controls, third-party equipment, and supplier solutions
  • Support client presentations and transition awarded projects into execution
Leadership & Operational Excellence
  • Lead cross-functional teams through complex, time-sensitive proposal development
  • Provide technical direction while balancing performance, risk, schedule, and cost
  • Mentor and coach junior Applications Engineers
  • Improve estimating accuracy and proposal development processes
  • Champion continuous improvement and process standardization
  • Support strategic growth opportunities within the nuclear and automation markets
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Systems Engineering, or a related discipline
  • 5-10 years of Mechanical/Electrical Design or Applications Engineering experience, preferably within the nuclear industry
  • 3+ years of experience in proposals, applications, sales, or business development
  • P.Eng. registration/eligibility in Ontario preferred; EIT registration considered
  • Working knowledge of robotics, machine controls, and manufacturing processes
  • Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical controls, and equipment integration preferred
  • Working knowledge of applicable CSA and ASME standards
  • Strong technical proposal writing, estimating, presentation, and project coordination skills
  • Proven ability to lead teams and deliver high-quality proposals under tight deadlines

Salary range: $115,000 - 135,000
