Job summary

Promation in Oakville, Ontario, seeks an Applications Engineer who can translate complex customer requirements into practical automation solutions. You will work at the intersection of engineering, estimating, and business development to lead RFQ/RFP responses, create automation concepts, and develop cost estimates.

Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation, or a related discipline.
  • Experience in automation, automotive manufacturing, machine building, or systems integration.
  • Experience with RFQs/RFPs, technical proposals, estimating, or applications engineering.
  • Strong understanding of automation systems and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience creating 2D/3D CAD concepts and equipment layouts.
  • Strong technical problem-solving and commercial awareness.
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and proposal deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical development of customer RFQ/RFP responses.
  • Assess customer requirements and develop competitive solution strategies.
  • Own proposal timelines from kick-off through final submission.
  • Develop project estimates, scope, and technical proposal content.
  • Support customer site visits, presentations, and technical discussions.
  • Coordinate input from Engineering, Project Management, Procurement, Manufacturing, and suppliers.
  • Develop innovative concepts for custom automation and automotive applications.
  • Create 2D/3D CAD concepts and equipment layouts.
  • Review technical specifications, project scope, and customer requirements.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and suppliers to determine equipment, materials, and technical solutions.
  • Identify technical risks and develop solutions early in the proposal process.
  • Support awarded projects through effective handoff to project execution teams.
  • Improve estimating accuracy, proposal quality, and project planning.
  • Identify and mitigate technical and commercial risks.
  • Build strong relationships with customers, suppliers, and internal teams.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and proposal process standardization.
  • Mentor and support junior team members.

Role Description

We are looking for an Applications Engineer who can turn complex customer requirements into smart, practical automation solutions.

Salary range: $90,000 – $114,000
