Job summary

CIHI is seeking a Senior Analyst to advance Indigenous health data priorities. You will manage data, develop standards, and create analyses to inform reports and insights for internal and external dissemination.

The role requires handling complex datasets, writing analytical code, and delivering high-quality documentation and client support. Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams is essential, with a focus on data quality and stakeholder engagement.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in a health data related field such as Health Information, Statistics, Data Science, Epidemiology, Health Sciences, Computer Science, Economics or Mathematics.
  • 3–5 years experience with relational databases / large datasets, including data manipulation and presenting analyses.
  • Experience with CIHI or other health data sources preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage CIHI data to support deliverables for internal and external dissemination.
  • Develop and maintain data standards, methodology, indicators and statistics.
  • Write and update statistical code for development, computation, analysis and verification.
  • Produce documentation and support data releases for reporting tools.
  • Conduct literature reviews and environmental scans to inform reports.
  • Provide timely client support for internal and external queries.
  • Stay current on data holdings, health policy trends and stakeholder needs.

The Senior Analyst plays a key role in advancing CIHI's Indigenous Health priorities. This work may include managing data; developing and maintaining data and information standards (such as methodologies, indicators and statistics); preparing documentation; providing client support; assessing data quality; producing statistics; fulfilling custom data requests; and conducting analysis to inform reports. The Senior Analyst also contributes to departmental and branch initiatives, as well as special projects as needed.

What you'll do
  • 1. Work with the Lead to manage CIHI data, ensuring it is fit for purpose, and to support the production of key deliverables for internal and external dissemination. Key deliverables include relevant documentation, data tables, custom data requests, and topical analytical reports.
  • 2. Conduct data management and analytical activities including writing and updating statistical code required for the development, computation, analysis, and/or verification of key deliverables. This may include support for the release of data and information through private and public reporting tools, including leading the execution of test strategies / test cases to ensure accuracy of the reported results in adherence with CIHI's corporate information quality framework.
  • 3. Maintain detailed knowledge of data, tools, and analytical techniques used to produce standard and ad-hoc outputs.
  • 4. Conduct environmental scans and literature reviews to support the development of reports, statistics, and indicators.
  • 5. Contribute to the development of materials (e.g., analytical reports, methodology or technical notes, presentations, educational, media, etc.) for dissemination of findings and knowledge translation, and reviews written products for analytic accuracy and quality.
  • 6. Provide professional and timely client support to respond to internal and external client queries.
  • 7. Maintain current knowledge of CIHI's data holdings, trends in health services research and health policy, and stakeholder information needs to support current work and contribute to the development of new analytic proposals.
What you'll bring to the table
  • Undergraduate degree in Health Information, Statistics, Data Science, Epidemiology, Health Sciences, Computer Science, Economics, Mathematics or a related field.
  • 3–5 years experience working with relational databases / large datasets, including manipulating, maintaining, and preparing data and presenting analyses and reports for different audiences.
  • Experience with CIHI or other health-related data sources.
Additional Requirements
  • Advanced proficiency with data manipulation and statistical software, such as Python, R, or equivalent tools.
  • Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Proven experience working with large relational datasets and performing rigorous data quality checks.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills — able to synthesize complex analyses and present clear, actionable findings;
  • Clear data storytelling and stakeholder engagement.
  • Demonstrated project management skills, attention to detail and ability to manage multiple concurrent deliverables.
  • Familiarity with cloud analytics, reproducible workflow tools and version control (Git).
  • Experience producing stakeholder facing data visualizations.
  • Analytical rigor, methodological soundness and quality focus.
  • Adaptability and commitment to continuous learning (new tools/techniques).
  • Knowledge of the health care system.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.
Basic Qualifications
  • Primary locations: Toronto or Ottawa.
  • Must comply with all CIHI workplace policies, including privacy and confidentiality.
  • Fluency in English is required, bilingualism in both official languages is an asset.
