Job summary

Manulife is seeking an experienced Data Scientist to join the Global AI Model Validation and Governance (AIMVG) team. You will independently validate AI/ML and GenAI models deployed globally, assess risks, and ensure alignment with Responsible AI principles and regulatory expectations.

You will mentor junior data scientists, communicate complex validation results to diverse stakeholders, and contribute to governance improvements while working in a hybrid environment in Toronto, Canada.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or higher in a quantitative field.
• 3-5 years of hands-on data science, AI/ML development, model validation or risk management.
• Experience developing, testing, validating, or overseeing AI/ML models in production, including Generative AI.
• Strong critical thinking and ability to challenge assumptions.
• Experience interpreting model performance metrics and communicating results.

Responsibilities

• Independently validate AI/ML and GenAI models, assessing design, performance, limitations and risks.
• Conduct model testing, benchmarking, sensitivity analysis, and other validation activities.
• Evaluate reliability, fairness, safety, explainability, and fitness for purpose of models.
• Provide independent challenge and feedback to model developers with remediation recommendations.
• Review documentation, assess design and performance, communicate findings clearly.
