Job summary

Facility Association's actuarial team offers opportunities to work collaboratively in valuation, planning/forecasting, pricing and data analytics, and to work with stakeholders in the claims, underwriting and finance departments, as well as our member companies and external stakeholders.

This role is a cross-functional position and the ideal candidate will bring both technical and industry knowledge to the FP&A function.

Qualifications

  • University or college degree in actuarial science, mathematics, finance, statistics or a related field.
  • 5+ years of Property & Casualty insurance experience related to reserving, valuation, pricing, finance and/or capital modeling.
  • 4+ CAS exams or CIA credential
  • ACAS/ACIA designation is an asset
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Knowledge of Tableau or similar business intelligence tools
  • Strong technical knowledge of programming languages such as SQL, SAS, VBA, Python, R
  • Database management experience is an asset
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple deliverables
  • Detail and deadline oriented

Responsibilities

  • Develop and apply data analysis for financial forecasting (exposures, premiums, loss ratios, expenses and cash flows).
  • Prepare data used in monthly financial reporting and monthly reforecasting cycle.
  • Produce analyses supporting forecasting assumptions in collaboration with valuation, pricing and underwriting teams.
  • Develop and present exhibits and analysis relating to exposure, losses and other key metrics.
  • Communicate key concepts and findings clearly to stakeholders.
  • Maintain documentation and risk controls throughout forecasting.
  • Create sustainable, dynamic, repeatable, automated processes to solve problems.
  • Prepare and present communication materials for member committees, internal stakeholders, regulatory and industry presentations.

Job description

Facility Association ensures the availability of automobile insurance to owners, lessees and licensed drivers of motor vehicles who are eligible. We are an unincorporated non-profit association of insurers. FA operates in Ontario, Alberta, Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Yukon, Nunavut, and Northwest Territories. Every insurer licensed to write automobile liability insurance in these jurisdictions is a member of the Facility Association. The affairs and business of FA is managed and controlled by a Board of Directors with authority Canada-wide. The President and CEO is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the organization and management of staff.

About The Role

The FA actuarial team offers opportunities to work collaboratively in valuation, planning/forecasting, pricing and data analytics, and to work with stakeholders in the claims, underwriting and finance departments, as well as our member companies and external stakeholders. This role is a cross-functional role and the ideal candidate will bring both technical and industry-specific knowledge to the position.

As a Senior Actuarial Analyst reporting to the Actuarial Manager, FP&A, you will:

  • Develop and apply your experience with spreadsheets, databases, and business information tools to prepare and analyze data used in financial forecasting (exposures, premiums, loss ratios, expenses and cash flows)
  • Prepare data used in monthly financial reporting and monthly reforecasting cycle
  • Produce analyses supporting assumptions that go into the forecasting tool, such as expense assumptions, business volume assumptions, loss ratio assumptions, rate changes and more, in collaboration with the valuation, pricing and underwriting teams.
  • Develop and present exhibits and analysis relating to measuring and tracking of exposure, losses and other key metrics.
  • Clearly and effectively communicate key concepts and findings related to all responsibilities outlined above.
  • Maintain documentation and risk controls throughout the forecasting process.
  • Work smart by creating sustainable, dynamic, repeatable and automated processes to solve work problems
  • Prepare and present communication materials for member committees, internal stakeholders, regulatory and industry presentations.

This is a hybrid role and attendance at the office is required once per week.

About You

As a senior actuarial analyst on the FP&A team, you demonstrate:

  • University or college degree in actuarial science, mathematics, finance, statistics or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience in Property & Casualty insurance (preferably Canadian) related to reserving, valuation, pricing, finance and/or capital modeling with a preference for finance, reserving and capital modeling experience.
  • 4+ CAS exams or CIA credential
  • ACAS/ACIA designation is an asset
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Knowledge of Tableau or similar business intelligence tools
  • Strong technical knowledge of programming languages such as (SQL, SAS, VBA, Python, R, etc.)

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and with a team to contribute to the successful delivery of time-sensitive projects

Compensation: 100K - 150K per year.
