Job summary

Heartland Mutual Insurance, rooted in Ontario, is seeking a skilled actuary/data analyst to analyze pricing and product performance. You will work across business segments to inform pricing and strategy with robust data insights.

The role requires a university degree in actuarial science or mathematics, 3+ years' actuarial/data analysis experience, and proficiency in SAS, SQL and Excel. CAS exams (4–6) are expected.

Qualifications

  • University degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics/Statistics or related discipline.
  • Successful completion of 4 to 6 Casualty Actuarial Society exams.
  • Minimum of 3 years' actuarial/data analysis experience, preferably with P&C exposure.
  • High proficiency with SAS, SQL and Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Perform research and data analysis on information needs across all business segments.
  • Perform rate analysis, pricing indications and provide recommendations for product/pricing changes.
  • Research and implement advanced analytics tools and techniques for the company.
  • Understand Heartland's policy admin and claims systems and their data structures.
  • Perform price competitive analysis and complete regulated Auto Filings with FSCO.
  • Contribute to Product and Pricing processes and maintain pricing algorithms.
  • Conduct market research and competitive analysis.
  • Create and maintain BI tools and applications.

What You Will Do...

  • Perform research and data analysis on all information needs relating to all business segments of the company.
  • Perform rate analysis, pricing indications and provides recommendations for product and pricing changes.
  • Research and implement more advanced analytics tools and techniques for the company.
  • Understand and effectively utilize Heartland’s policy admin and claims systems and their underlying data structures.
  • Perform price competitive analysis.
  • Works with FSCO to complete the regulated Auto Filings.
  • A key contributor to the Product and Pricing, Process.
  • Maintain all pricing algorithms of the company.
  • Conduct market research and competitive analysis.
  • Creation and maintenance of business intelligence tools and applications.

What You Will Bring...

  • University degree (Actuarial Science, Mathematics/Statistics or a related discipline).
  • Successful completion of 4 to 6 exams from the Casualty Actuarial Society
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in an actuarial/data analysis role, preferably with P&C insurance exposure or a significant educational background in a related discipline.
  • High Proficiency with SAS, SQL, and Excel.
  • A working knowledge of Emblem would be an asset.
  • A good understanding of P&C pricing and ratemaking concepts
  • Demonstrated strength in oral, written and presentation communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.

The salary range for this role is $76,000 - $114,000. The salary for the successful candidate will be determined by various factors including but not limited to an individual’s relevant experience, knowledge, skills, along with internal equity, and market considerations.
