Job summary

Sandbox, a mutual insurance company, is seeking a Supervisor, Accounting to lead and support the day-to-day operations of the Accounting department in Canada. You will provide expertise, guidance, and strategic insight to drive the company’s financial success.

You will oversee journal entries, reconciliations, regulatory reporting, and financial statements, while supervising month-end and year-end processes and coordinating with auditors and actuaries.

Qualifications

• Professional accounting designation required.
• Five (5) or more years of accounting experience, including leadership or supervisory responsibilities.
• Extensive knowledge of accounting principles, auditing practices, financial reporting, investments, and capital markets.
• Ability to analyze complex situations, solve problems, and make informed decisions
• Proven ability to motivate, coach, develop, and support employees
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
• Strong understanding of accounting systems, reporting tools, and process improvement opportunities.
• Knowledge of insurance operations, reinsurance, underwriting, or claims

Responsibilities

• Lead and support day-to-day operations of the Accounting department.
• Provide guidance, coaching, training, and performance support to Accounting team members.
• Oversee general accounting functions, including journal entries, bank reconciliations, regulatory reporting, and financial statements.
• Supervise month-end and year-end processes while coordinating with auditors, actuaries, and other key stakeholders.
• Monitor cash flow, maintain banking relationships, and support sound financial management practices.
• Identify opportunities to improve processes, enhance efficiencies, and strengthen customer service within the department.
