Job summary

Sandbox Mutual Insurance is seeking a Supervisor, Accounting to lead the day-to-day operations of the Accounting department and mentor a high-performing team in a hybrid work setting. You will oversee journal entries, reconciliations, regulatory reporting, and financial statements while driving improvements across processes and internal/external customer service.

The role requires an accounting designation and 5+ years of experience, with strong leadership and communication skills to support

Qualifications

• Five or more years of accounting experience, including leadership or supervisory responsibilities.
• Extensive knowledge of accounting principles, auditing practices, financial reporting, investments, and capital markets.
• Strong communication and supervisory coaching capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day operations of the Accounting department and support a high-performing team.
• Provide guidance, coaching, training, and performance support to team members.
• Oversee journal entries, bank reconciliations, regulatory reporting, and financial statements.
• Supervise month-end and year-end processes and coordinate with auditors and actuaries.
• Monitor cash flow, banking relationships, and financial management practices.
• Identify opportunities to improve processes, efficiencies, and customer service within the department.
• Contribute to strategic projects and act as a subject matter expert to support company goals.
• Build strong cross-organizational relationships and foster a people-first culture.

DIVE IN AND MAKE A SPLASH EVERY DAY, BY:

• Leading the day-to-day operations of the Accounting department while supporting a collaborative, high-performing team.
• Providing guidance, coaching, training, and performance support to Accounting team members.
• Overseeing general accounting functions, including journal entries, bank reconciliations, regulatory reporting, and financial statements.
• Supervising month-end and year-end processes while coordinating with auditors, actuaries, and other key stakeholders.
• Monitoring cash flow, maintaining banking relationships, and supporting sound financial management practices.
• Identifying opportunities to improve processes, enhance efficiencies, and strengthen customer service within the department.
• Contributing to strategic projects and acting as a subject matter expert to support company goals and initiatives.
• Building strong relationships across the organization and helping foster a positive, people-first culture.

WHAT YOU BRING TO SANDBOX:

• Accounting Expert: Professional accounting designation required.
• Experience Counts: Five (5) or more years of accounting experience, including leadership or supervisory responsibilities.
• Financial Acumen: Extensive knowledge of accounting principles, auditing practices, financial reporting, investments, and capital markets.
• Strategic Thinker: Ability to analyze complex situations, solve problems, and make informed decisions in a fast-paced environment.
• People Leader: Proven ability to motivate, coach, develop, and support employees while building effective teams.
• Master Communicator: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to build strong relationships across the organization.
• Technology Savvy: Strong understanding of accounting systems, reporting tools, and process improvement opportunities.
• Insurance Knowledge: Knowledge of insurance operations, reinsurance, underwriting, or claims is considered an asset.
