Job summary

Aurora Solar in Canada is seeking a strategic and hands-on Accounting Leader to scale our financial operations. Reporting to the Controller, you will guide a four-person team handling the general ledger, accounts payable, and payroll, ensuring GAAP compliance and audit readiness as we grow.

The role emphasizes process improvement, cross-functional collaboration, and a roll-up-the-sleeves leadership style to drive accuracy and efficiency across the finance function.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of accounting experience with 4+ years leading teams.
• Mastery of US GAAP and SaaS accounting.
• CPA certification and a passion for operational excellence.
• Experience streamlining and optimizing accounting systems and processes.
• Clear, confident communication and ability to influence cross-functionally.
• A strategic view of the numbers with attention to detail.
• Ability to manage ambiguity and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Roll-up the sleeves approach to accomplish tasks.

Responsibilities

• Plan and implement the accounting close process and related activities to ensure compliance with US GAAP and internal financial policies.
• Manage complex accounting processes for software development, allocations, stock-based compensation, commission capitalization, intercompany and consolidation.
• Manage the end-to-end payroll process, benefits accounting, and quarterly and annual payroll tax filings.
• Oversee all Accounts Payable functions including expense reporting and accruals.
• Review journal entries, reconciliations, and identify key trends in the P&L and balance sheet.
• Lead preparation for annual financial audit, coordinating with external auditors and internal stakeholders.
• Champion team growth through mentorship and hands-on leadership.
• Build scalable systems that drive efficiency and transparency.
