The successful candidate will join a collaborative firm environment with exposure to a diverse portfolio of privately held businesses, entrepreneurs, and individual clients. There is strong opportunity for continued professional development, increased client responsibility, and long-term career growth.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting and Financial Reporting

  • Manage year-end accounting engagements for privately held businesses
  • Prepare compilation engagements, financial statements, working papers, and supporting schedules
  • Review general ledgers and prepare adjusting journal entries
  • Complete bank, credit card, payroll, intercompany, and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Analyze financial information and investigate discrepancies
  • Support month-end and year-end closing processes
  • Complete bookkeeping clean‑up and catch‑up engagements when required
  • Review bookkeeping and working papers prepared by junior team members
Tax and Compliance
  • Prepare T1 personal and T2 corporate income tax returns
  • Prepare T3 trust returns where applicable
  • Prepare GST/HST returns and other statutory filings
  • Prepare corporate tax provisions and supporting schedules
  • Identify potential tax‑planning opportunities and compliance issues
  • Review Notices of Assessment and Reassessment
  • Assist with CRA correspondence, reviews, audits, and client inquiries
  • Ensure engagements comply with applicable Canadian accounting and tax requirements
Client and Engagement Management
  • Act as a primary point of contact for assigned clients
  • Gather and assess financial documentation required to complete engagements
  • Communicate outstanding information, deadlines, and recommendations clearly
  • Manage multiple engagements and ensure files are completed accurately and on schedule
  • Develop trusted relationships with business owners and individual clients
  • Provide practical accounting, tax, and business guidance
  • Support senior leadership with complex client matters and tax‑season workloads
Qualifications
  • Minimum 2 years of progressive experience within a Canadian CPA firm

  • Hands‑on experience preparing Canadian T1, T2, and GST/HST returns
  • Strong understanding of Canadian accounting standards and tax compliance requirements
  • Experience managing multiple client engagements simultaneously

  • CPA designation or active progress toward completion is preferred
  • Experience reviewing or mentoring junior accounting staff is an asset
What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate is someone who can independently take ownership of a file rather than requiring significant day‑to‑day oversight.

You will bring:

  • Strong technical accounting and tax knowledge
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • The ability to manage files from planning through completion
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
  • Professional written and verbal communication
  • The ability to manage competing deadlines during tax and year‑end periods
  • Sound judgment and discretion when handling confidential information
  • A collaborative and dependable approach
  • A genuine commitment to client service
Why Consider This Opportunity
  • $75,000-$100,000 salary, depending on experience
  • Opportunities available in Guelph and Milton
  • Exposure to a diverse portfolio of privately held businesses and individual clients
  • Significant ownership of client files and engagements
  • Direct interaction with business owners and senior firm leadership
