The Senior Accountant is responsible for the compilation, analysis, interpretation, and summarization of financial data used in financial statements.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare monthly financial statements, including consolidations, supporting schedules, and journal entries.
- Perform financial and variance analysis on monthly and quarterly data.
- Oversee the chart of accounts, track, and monitor financial information.
- Reconcile financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information and performing variance analysis.
- Assist with monthly management reporting, analyzing trends, and actual results versus budget and forecasts.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
- Support month-end and year-end close processes, including assistance with external audits.
- Monitor and recommend potential improvements to internal financial controls and processes to increase efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with corporate accounting and tax requirements.
- Ensure accurate, timely, and consistent flow of information between partners.
- Assist with cash management and bank covenant requirements.
Note : In addition to these duties, personnel are required to carry out such other duties as may be reasonably required to support the objectives of the company.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Commerce degree or related field is required.
- CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant) Designation.
Experience
- Minimum of five years of experience as an Accountant or similar position, preferably in the construction industry.
- Two or more years of post-designation experience with accounting reporting experience preferred.
Skills and Knowledge
- Thorough knowledge of Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE).
- Accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
- Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines.
- Ability to take initiative with limited structure or guidance.
- Critical thinking, logical analysis, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite, especially Excel.
- Understanding of the pipeline construction industry is an asset.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This is a permanent position based at our Calgary head office, with a 5-day work week, 8-hour days. Extended hours may be required to meet reporting deadlines.
