Job description

ROLE
The Senior Accountant is responsible for the compilation, analysis, interpretation, and summarization of financial data used in financial statements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Prepare monthly financial statements, including consolidations, supporting schedules, and journal entries.
• Perform financial and variance analysis on monthly and quarterly data.
• Oversee the chart of accounts, track, and monitor financial information.
• Reconcile financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information and performing variance analysis.
• Assist with monthly management reporting, analyzing trends, and actual results versus budget and forecasts.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
• Support month-end and year-end close processes, including assistance with external audits.
• Monitor and recommend potential improvements to internal financial controls and processes to increase efficiency.
• Ensure compliance with corporate accounting and tax requirements.
• Ensure accurate, timely, and consistent flow of information between partners.
• Assist with cash management and bank covenant requirements.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Commerce degree or related field is required.
• CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant) Designation.

Experience

• Minimum of five years of experience as an Accountant or similar position, preferably in the construction industry.
• Two or more years of post-designation experience with accounting reporting experience preferred.

Skills and Knowledge

• Thorough knowledge of Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE).
• Accuracy and attention to detail.
• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
• Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines.
• Ability to take initiative with limited structure or guidance.
• Critical thinking, logical analysis, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency with MS Office Suite, especially Excel.
• Understanding of the pipeline construction industry is an asset.

WORKING CONDITIONS

This is a permanent position based at our Calgary head office, with a 5-day work week, 8-hour days. Extended hours may be required to meet reporting deadlines.
